Hi!

Unussual shot of the mushroom today- close up on the pores of this tree parasite- Daedalea quercina called Maze-gill Fungus (PL: Gmatwek debowy).

Description:
Most often seen on oak stumps, this cork-like bracket grows to between 6 and 20 cm across and is 2 to 5 cm thick.
Tubes and Pores:The pores are in the form of large slots interconnected to form a maze-like structure with the slots generally aligned radially.
Ochraceous, the gill-like slots are 1 to 4 cm deep.
Spore print: White.
Odour/taste: Slight acrid odour; no distinctive taste but a very tough texture.
Habitat: On dead oak wood and, less frequently, sweet chestnut.
Season: All year round, but shedding spores in late summer and autumn. (http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/id_guide/poriales/daedalea_quercina.htm)

Quite common and big mashroom. I found this one growing on the trunk of oak in forest near Olsztyn, Poland.
Picture is cropped, resized and resharpened. Tripod used.

Thanks for watching and commenting!
Cheers and have a nice day...

Hello Adrian,
An excellent sharp macro of the underside (gill side) of this Maze-gill Mushroom. The pattern is wonderful and reminds me a little of coral.
Thanks for sharing this delight,
Ivan

Hi Adrian!

This really is a maze :)
I like the wonderful and surprising pattern again created by nature. And very well seen and presented by you, TFS!

Best regards,
Andor

Hi Adrian!

This picture is as beautiful as it is surprising and amazing. I like the structural patterns and the colours very much. The picture pleases due to the abstract effect more than for its scientific aspect. I imagine that this was your intention. You really have created a very pleasant image.

Kind regards

Markus

Well, it is unusual Adrian, a good close up under perfect illumination to demonstrate the mushrooms labyrinth-like gills perfectly. At first glance I thought I was observing a fine coral specimen! TFS indeed.

Hi Adrian,
A really cool close up look at the gill structure of this Daedalea.
It is quite different to the usual radial gills. I wonder what family this belongs to?
It would be interesting to see this whole mushroom too.
TFS this one.
Cheers
Steve

Great abstract style photo. Very original - I like it

Hi Adrian,
I absolutely love this kind of unique and unusual fungi shots, and Yours here is a masterpiece. Personally I should have cropped the very-very small background from the top left and bottom right corners, to reach the total minimalism: only the pores of the fungus and nothing else! But I admit this is minor problem, and Your photo's very effective. Let me show You something similar, although Your capture's better.
Best wishes from Hungary, László
