Hi Pat,
Welcome to Treknature! Really interesting fungi you have put up as your first post. I'm still working on my macro skills myself, and I find that it's good to use the highest f-stop value possible (light permitting). You could improve your depth of field with a combination of a higher f-stop value (eg use f/4 rather than f/16) combined with a faster shutter speed. As it was sunny that day, the light should have been sufficient. To prevent blur on the subject you're aiming at I find it's effective to auto-focus on the subject first, then switch to manual focus until you've got exactly what you need in focus. Of course it requires keeping really still! Hope this helps you, and I look forward to more posts.
