Lacetra agilis agilis Linnaeus, 1758 - Sand Lizard (Lecertidae).

Really this lizard species was recently presented on some pictures by Horia but here I decided to show the third, nominative subspecies just to compare it with spp. euxinica and ssp. chersonensis.

Here on the photo is a male specimen, which (as written in the picture's title) is ready to mate and still looking for a free female ;>

Lacetra agilis agilis is the most common Polish lizard species occurring in different sandy habibats, sometimes also in the middle of forest areas.

It is one of the only 9 species of reptiles occurring in Poland. The other are: Zootoca vivipara, Lacerta viridis, Anguis fragilis, Vipera berus, Natrix natrix, Elaphe longissima, Coronella austriaca, and Emys orbicularis .

As all other reptiles also this species in protected by the low in Poland.

This picture was taken in sandy open area in Bolimow Landscape Lark (C Poland) where numerous individuals of this species were observed.

Hello Radomir,
This is a fine capture of the front half of a male Sand Lizard, with excellent contrasting BG against its green body. Sharp and well presented. I'm afraid I can't offer any free females!
All our reptiles are protected in Sweden too.

Ah....what a beauty he his! I imagine there is a battle among females for him :))
I must remark however that is rather different from what we have here...especially that the back has pretty much no markings...very interesting. It is also very bright in colors and very vivid...looks much better that the ones we have :))

The photo itself looks great!
I really like the low POV here and the very nice and rather shallow DOF that blurres the BG well.
The sharpness is exceptional and it shows wonderful details and textures on the scales and the eye of this "macho".
Very nice composition and presentation, as well.

What an interesting lizard, Radomir!
My only nit is that the ground as BG has impeded a clear delineation of its outline. Still, it is minor nit and does not affect the real charm of this good looker.

Hello,

Very nice close-up of this species. In fact it's not the typical form of L. agilis. It's a clear example of variety erythronota, characteristic for its uniform brown or rufous back. Typical specimen in Poland look more or less similar to that on Horia's picture in the workshop.

Nunca tinha visto um lagarto com um verde tão vivo e bonito. O gostei do POV e vc conseguiu um destaque maior para esse lagarto devido ao BG.

wow I just see this kind of skink, really nice bright green colour, I guess he just change his skin (some still left in the tail), really extraordinary shot, nice focus, details and playful colour, TFS
