My number 22 in D-flies competition with Horia.

This one was taken in some kind of national park nearby Lodz. I read that in this place one can find over 40 species of dragonflies. I thought it'll be my secret weapon in competition. But life is hard - I founded one new specie there - Erythromma viridulum - Small Red-eyed Damselfly :-)

How our competition with Horia started?

My full list of D-flies:

Damselfies:

1) Calopteryx splendens - Banded Demoiselle
2) Calopteryx virgo - Beautiful Demoiselle
3) Coenagrion puella - Azure Damselfly
4) Enallagma cyathigerum - Common Bluet
5) Erythromma najas - Red-eyed Damselfly
6) Ischnura elegans - Blue-tailed Damselfly
7) Lestes dryas - Robust Spreadwing
8) Lestes viridis - Western Willow Spreadwing
9) Pyrrhosoma nymphula - Large Red Damselfly
10) Sympecma fusca - Common Winter Damselfly
11) Erythromma viridulum - Small Red-eyed Damselfly

Dragonflies:

12) Anax imperator - Emperor Dragonfly
13) Aeshna cyanea - Southern Hawker
14) Aeshna grandis - Brown Hawker
15) Aeshna mixta - Migrant Hawker
16) Libellula depressa - Broad-bodied Chaser
17) Libellula quadrimaculata - Four-spotted Chaser
18) Orthetrum cancellatum - Black-tailed Skimmer
19) Sympetrum danae - Black Darter
20) Sympetrum sanguineum - Ruddy Darter
21) Sympetrum striolatum - Common Darter
22) Sympetrum vulgatum - Vagrant Darter

Hello Grzegorz,

It is a very fine photo with a good image. Insects are presented with a good sharpness and the mild light renders fine the natural colors.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Grzegorz!

The advantage of a competition, from the point of view of the spectator, is the boost effect on the participants to try to outperform the adversary. The result is a picture like this one! It's fabulous, full of action, showing an incredible and amazing position of the damselflies in a technically perfect image.

Kind regards

Markus

Hejka!
Pozdrawiam serdecznie!
Radek

Superb macro shot of these dragonflies in mating. TFS and regards,
Bahadır

I got a message from Horia on this..and you know...considering how much valuable information comes from this almost jovial method between great imagers...your work will far outspreads your life...at least those of us who believe life shall go on think so!
Bob

Hey, Greg, the female is suspended in the air in this mating shot!!
You mean mating D.flies can defy gravity??
Your 22nd species is un"common" and adds an edge to your position as a player from Poland pitted against Romania. You have an advantage.
The image is immaculate as usual.
How you manage such brilliant macros with your 70-300mm is beyond me.
Thanks for sharing this "secret weapon" and all the best.
Ram

Hi Greg,
Wonderful scene in splendid light and beautiful colours. The contrasts against the grey BG are very nice. Excellent sharpness, diagonal composition and POV.

Peter

Hi Greg

I've been away for a couple of days on a business trip and you already have an extra species :))
I'm actually sad to hear that you couldn't find any other new and interesting species in that splendid location. And even though this season is pretty much over, i think it's a place worth investigating further next year.

Anyway, this is a nice capture, with this pair of small red-eyed d-flies. Their pose is a bit strange, though...not exactly the classical heart shape that i've usually seen :) It's actually a bit funny :)
Nevertheless, you managed to keep them both in good focus and present their features well here.
Lovely colors and good control over the exposure.
Congrats and hope to see more, my friend ;)

Bravo and TFS
Horia
