[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello my Friends!
In Poland the long weekend (4 days) is just ending, so I would like to show you a very "fresh" picture taken during this break from work :)


This unidenfified (till now... :>) member of family Ichneumonidae was photographed in Dobieszkow village, "Struga Dobieszkowka Nature Reserve", Wzniesienia Lodzkie Landscape Park, Central Poland.
A lot of data about this insect group can be found in TN gallery, so I would like only to note, that this family includes some 2300 species in Polish fauna (more than 20 000 in the world fauna).

This specimen was found under the bark of dead Pinus sylvestris tree, just next to many other different insect species which no are looking for shelters to overwinter. It is really amazing that during this period of year many arthropods which normally are enemies, now can occur so close, sometimes in a distance of only some 1-2 cm!
Just a small exaple, in this dead tree there were not only these ichmeunonid wasps, but also ground beetles (genera: Carabus, Pterostichus, Platynus, and Nebria), Staphylinidae (few genera), hundreds of springtails, several species of flies, slugs and snails, some small isopods, centipedes, diplopods, and spiders.
So as you can read, the diversity was rather high, and it was only one dead tree!!! :)


And last but not least, I would like to dedicate this picture to Marie (mariki) who likes insects and very often shows us many unusual and unique species from this interesting group :>

Hello Radomir,
A very kind and nice dedication to our friend Marie-Christine. Really amazing how many different wasps it gives, and this one is just beautiful with its 3-colored antennae and the big black eyes!
Interesting also to read your note about the diversity of creatures living close together when colder times come.

such a nice Ichneumonid, colorful and all. I found no comprehensive picture collection on the net to help you with the ID, its a pity.

What comes to my mind looking at your picture is a citation of Darwin (the Darwin Year 2009 is near): "I cannot persuade myself that a beneficient and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of Caterpillars or that a cat should play with mice." (Charles Darwin, in a letter to his colleague Asa Gray).
