Hello my TN Friends!
Well, even if the winter is still present in Lodz (at this moment it is snowing...), I would like to show you the first "spring" picture taken by me this year. This is also the first macro photo taken by me using my new Raynox DCR-250, so your comments are more that welcomed :>

This is Carabus (Chrysocarabus) auronitens auronitens Fabricius, 1792 (Coleoptera: Carabidae), one of some 35 species from this genus known from Poland. All of them are protected by Polish law.

The are not many ground beetles on TN, but if you like to see some other species, please look here. Please feel free to add your pictures to this theme too :>

And here are some facts about this - in my opinion - one the most beautiful and colourful ground beetle species in Polish fauna:

Size: rather medium sized ground beetle, some 16-25mm with females as bigger sex.

Food: a predatory beetle hunting mainly at night on every small invertebrates it can catch (slugs and snails, earthworms, caterpillars, ect.).

Distribution: mainly central Europe, from lowland (rather rare) to mountain (much often). Among 9 known subspecies of this species, in Poland there are only two - presented on this picture, and much moe blue in colouration - spp. escheri Palliardi, 1825.

Habitat: mainly in woodland areas, where it live under decaying logs or trunks, during winter season they hibernate in these places.

This picture was taken near Dobieszkow village, Wzniesienia Lodzkie Landscape Park, central Poland.

Hallo Radomir
What a delightful looking beetle. You managed to capture this big green and gold beetle in a lovely pose in its natural environment. Your title is just perfect, and so is your image. The details are clearly visible and well displayed. Great focus, great sharpness and great framing. Image presented in a superb manner. The greenery is a perfect background and compliments the beetle well. Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Radomir

Ciao,
Marcello

Hello Radomir,
This is a very fine and beautiful macro well captured and composed!
perfect sharpness, vivid colour and details
the exposure and focus is spot on!
well done and many thanks for sharing
cheers
Tony

Your Raynox has done a great job, indeed, Radomir, but a lens does not do things by itself. It is Radomir behind it that deserves all the credit for capturing this technically and aesthetically super image.
Congratulations on both accounts -- for a new lens and for your first great macro of the season.

Hello Radomir,

Excellent sharp picture. Superb colours. I just wonder why, as you use a fill-flash, it is so dark on the abdomen of the insect. Anyway that is a fantastic picture.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hi Radomir,
unfortunately I rarely check your pictures but each time I do I'm really impressed by what you show. This Carabus is a good example: you made the definitive portrait of the beautiful and lively beetle. I am particularly amazed about the light, slightly reflecting on the elytrae, shining through the legs: you are one hell of a photographer, Radomir!
My best wishes,
Dietrich

Hello Radomir!
Very beautiful shot of this green beast in the middle of the "salad" :)
The exposure is very nice and the tight crop offers plenty of descriptive details. I will send you a photo of one of this beasts which I often find around my new house to see if you can help me.
Thanks and regards, Felipe.

Dear Radomir,
a wonderful, perfect presentation of flashy Carabus auronitens. Your ideal approach from a low frontal point of view makes it a very lively, even dramatical encounter. Perfect sharpness, beautiful shining natural colours, wonderful lush surroundings. Thank you!
My best regards,
Peter
