I want to show you 3 photos of L. dispar. All 3 shots were taken last year. You can also see the female here and underwing here. I must say that L. dispar is very difficult to photograph and I am not satisfied with any of those shots ;-)

Lycaena dispar The Large Copper
Family: Lycaenidae

The white eggs are laid singly on the foodplant, with several eggs sometimes being found together on the same leaf. The eggs hatch in approximately 16 days As for the Small Copper larva, a small groove is formed, leaving the upper surface of the leaf intact. The larva rests in this groove when not feeding. In the third instar, the larva creates holes in the leaf surface and moves to the midrib of the leaf prior to moulting. The larva overwinters while in the third instar, at the base of the foodplant, typically within leaf litter.

Wingspan: 32-40mm
Caterpillars host plants: Rumex hydrolapathum, Rumex aquaticus
Flight period: one or two generations V-VIII
Habitat: meadows, river valleys, peatbogs
Distribution: Europe, Asia

Hi Krzysztof . i must say i would be very pleased to have taken any of these pictures. I think the one you have posted is the better of them. I do prefer to see a top POV in butterfly pictures. You have taken this one with sharp focusing and bright colours. Well done TFS.

Hello Krzysztof,
can you tell me what is the problem with this shot? The butterfly is well shown and stands out clearly,
although the background shows some distracting elements.
The focus is exact, sharpness/resolution could be a bit higher.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Krzysztof,
You are lucky to have L. dispar in your country and you have made a fine capture of a male despite the photographic difficulties. Though the BG is busy this is sharp and I would be pleased with it.
Thanks and best wishes,
Ivan

A fine trio indeed Krzysztof, all in good focus and natural colours, revealing their characteristic patterns quite accurately. TFS all three of them, also the good notes.

Czesc Krzysiek!

Podobno modraszkowate juz lataja w tym roku - ja ich jeszcze nie spotkalem. Pieknie Ci sie udalo to zdjecie - rozlozone skrzydelka i perfekcyjna ostrosc. Do tego bardzo przegladowy workshop. Nie moge sie juz doczekac pojawienia sie tych sympatycznych motylkow [no i wazek oczywiscie :-)].

Hi Krzysztof, a superb presentation of a beautiful butterfly, Large Copper in excellent way providing us all necessary visual info. All shots are perfectly captured and composed...
TFS and cheers,
Bayram

Hello Krysztof,
Maybe the BG is not ideal, but all three photos of the butterflies themselves are really excellent. The sharp details are very good and the light and colours very clear. The composition is just what it need to be.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Chris,
A nice capture of this beautiful large copper butterfly. Very good open wing capture with sharp details and a very good composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Aparte del documento, un trabajo muy artístico, por la luz, colores y sobre todo fondo: preciosa !

Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Krzysztof,
as you say, that butterfly is very quick and alert, and only easy to approach when there is cool weather. Therefore it is easier to capture the spring generation that the midsummer one. Anyway, you are very lucky to have the chance to see that rare and endangered species quite frequently in your part of Europe, same as we do here in Eastern Austria.
You have given a perfectly descriptive presentation of this exquisite species. From a photographic point of view I like the female's presentation in particular. But also the other ones are well detailed and very clear, and more than just sufficient for documentary purposes.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
