[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Today is Labour Day, very good day for taking potos in Botanic Garden. I was walking there in about five hours and I was really glad with pictures which I took. This is Four-spotted Chaser, my first dragonfly this year.

Four-spotted Chaser, known in North America as the Four-spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata) is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.

A common species of Dragonfly. In the United Kingdom, the adult stage is found between April to early September. Mid May to mid August in Ireland. Larvae have a two year developmental cycle. Adults feeding predominantly on mosquitos, gnats and midges, the larvae feed primarily on other aquatic insect larvae and on tadpoles.

There is a variant form, praenubila Newman, which has exaggerated wing spots. This is believed to be related to water temperatures during larval development, and appears to be more common in Europe than in the Americas.

Behaviour

The male is considered to be highly aggressive and will defend a given territory from incursions from other males of the species. The male is known to form preferences for prominent perches and will often return to the same perches around the margins of pools and ponds whilst it patrols for intruders. Both Sexes are prolific fliers and mating takes place in the air, rather than on perches or amongst the vegetation. The female lays her eggs on floating vegetation. They tend to be easier to approach than Broad-bodied Chasers.

Hi Greg,
I love what you were able to do with the wings... make them shiny without overexposing them... showing their translucence and delicacy.
The light and shadows on the wings give them so much texture and three-dimensionality.
Perfect pose of your subject and excellent sharpness throughout, not to mention a beautiful BG.
TFS this outstanding image. : )

Superb colours, Grzegorz!
That, with the overall sharpness, makes this a perfect macro!
Very well done!
Goldy

Super Greg!
This is a nice clear shot of the East Finchley Platypus in its mating plumage.
I love the light glistening in its feathers.
Excellent detail and sharpness.
Jolly good wonk!
Cheers

Hi Greg

Congrats for your first d-fly of the year! I wish you many more to come :)
Interestingly, despite the fact that i already found about 15 species at my thermal lake this year, Libelulla quadrimaculata wasn't among them :) ...different area, different setting i guess.
This is a very nice shot, clear and with a good DOF that isolates the subject from the BG. I'm a bit surprised that you still shot this one with the 70-300 Sigma and not with your new true macro lens...but i guess it takes a little bit of getting used to.
I gave my 70-300 to a dear friend so i think that even if it were easier for me with it, i had to get used to my new 150 one soon and i've only been shooting with it all this season.
Anyway, again Bravo for this lovely shot and keep it coming. Even if i'm not posting/critiquing that much, i'm still watching ;)
Horia

With those reflections in the wing membranes, this is one of the best d.fly close ups I've ever seen Grzegorz, the dorsal viewpoint kept the whole d.fly within the shallow DOF, producing a pin-sharp image, even the haemolymph bubbles in the anterior abdomen are visible! TFS this fine image my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Greg,
A nice capture of this beautiful four spotted chaser. No outing now a days for me due to heavy work load and also for temperature around 45DegCel. Very good sharp details and a nice composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Greg,
What a beauty! The clear colours are amazing and the sharpness and details more than excellent! And that all against a very beautiful soft BG. Great composition and POV.

Peter

Hallo Greg
This is a lovely close to the eye image of this Four-spotted Chaser. The details are super sharp and well portrayed. I love the centered composition, as well as the clarity of the fine hairs on the body. It is the 1st time I have seen the fine body hairs so close and clear. The wide opened wings are beautiful and your photography brings out the lovely textures and patterns to its best. The shine captured on the large eyes is eye-catching. Thanks for sharing this delightful image.
Best regards
Anna
