Today number two from my new Lycaenidae list - Plebeius agestis - Brown Argus. I took this photo yesterday. When I saw it on my PC I thought that this is female of Common blue, but friends from one Polish ethomological forum said I' wrong. Good for me - new specie on my list.

Butterlies from Lycaenidae family are rather small, but even then they hard to capture with proper DOF. This picture could be great. Unfortunatelly upper left tip of wing is totally OOF. I hope I'll learn soon how to capture small butterflies during wind :-) I remember that my first photos of d-flies were very poor also. Later I started to learn and after few weeks of work I was quite happy with results.

My Lycaenidae family list:

1) Polyommatus icarus - Common Blue
2) Plebeius agestis - Brown Argus

http://www.glaucus.org.uk/BflyBlues03.html - look there, there are great tips how to differ Brown argus from female of Common blue.

Hi Greg . Number two already. This time the Brown Argus. Again a fine POV from the top showing us the open wing markings and colours. I like the DOF . The butterfly stands out well from the plain green BG. well done TFS.Nick..

Hallo Greg
I am a lover of any beautiful photograph being insects, birds, sunset, wildlife, flowers, waterfalls and what so ever. Nature is so stunning that one cannot but love the sight of any of it, and your image is a proof of it. The details of the patterns and markings on the wings of this butterfly is beautifully displayed. I like the centered composition and the fact that the subject nearly fits into the entire frame. This is a beautiful macro.
Best regards.
Anna

Hello Grzegorz,
a nice presentation to show the beautiful wing pattern of this small butterfly.
The effects of light on the wing surface are well reproduced.
Beste wishes, Peter

Fantastic photo, Greg!
The DOF is perfect here. The OOF BG is very beautiful. Great sharpness and details with splendid clear colours. Good central composition and POV.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Grzeg,

After being away from the site it's very good to see Your wonderful shots again. Fantastically sharpened photo (even the antennas are sharp as razorblade), beautiful butterfly. Yes, the left wing became a bit oof, but it was unavoidable. Wind: sometimes it helps. Although not a small b/fly specie at all, but please have a look on this pic. I've done it in very windy conditions, where wind was blowing from our back and didn't let the insect move at all. :) I've also done an Iphiclides podalirius shot (still not on TN) minutes later, on the same rock, so I must say that day wind was very heavily supported me. :) For the first and maybe for the last. :)

Congratulations for capturing a new specie into Your photo collection with such high quality, best regards, László

Hello Grzegorz,

Hello Greg,
Today I took a shot of a male P. agestis and you present a fine macro of a female showing her open wings nicely with mostly excellent sharpness with against a neutral BG.
Thanks and have a good week,
Ivan

super sharpness
great shot
greeting lou

ciao Greg!
this really beautiful taken from above to show the fine details of the wings of this little lycaenide

best sERGIO

I am wondering because of the great detail and high light here if you perhaps used a well synched flash? If not then you did some real fine work with high sun!
Bob

Hi Greg,
This is a nice clear shot of the Brown Argus.
I see you are using the EOS 400D
I just bought myself the Canon SX10 IS today so I'm looking forward to trying it out in the next few days.
Cheers
Steve
