Another butterfly from Przedborz. Soon I will show you also some interesting moths from this place. This species is not so often presented on TN compared to closely related Apatura ilia

Apatura iris
Family: Nymphalidae

Adults have dark brown wings with white lines and a small orange ring on each of the hindwings. Males have an iridescent purple-blue sheen which the females lack. The caterpillars are green with white and yellow markings and have two large horns.

Wing span: 60-72mm

Caterpillars host plants: Salix caprea, Salix aurita, Salix cinerea

Habitat: deciduous forests, forest edges and clearings, sometimes also parks

Distribution: Europe – absent in Mediterranean region, Asia in temperate climate zone

I just noticed something funny - today is my 4th year on TN ;-)

Witaj Krzysztofie,
Gratulacje 4-letniej wytrwalosci. Sliczny okaz, pewnie takiego nie spotkalem. Perfekcyjne ustawienie ostrosci no i tlo bardzo kolorystycznie pasuje do tego motyla, barwy sa harmonizujace.

Chris, you have entrenched yourself on TN as a person of erudition and a photographer of outstanding skills in these years you have been on TN.
Congratulations on your 4th year!
This is, indeed, a very attractive butterfly which you have shot with great dexterity against an intersting BG.
That subtle blue sheen on the wings of the male comes out very strongly in this picture.
May your next year on TN be as great as ever!
