Inachis io

The European peacock, or simply Peacock (Inachis io) is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe and Asia. The species is resident in much of its range, often wintering in buildings or trees.
The butterfly measures about 5 cm (2 in) from wingtip to wingtip.

The butterfly hibernates over winter before laying its eggs in early spring, in batches of up to 500 at a time. The caterpillars, which are shiny black with six rows of barbed spikes and a series of white dots on each segment, hatch after about a week and feed on nettles and hops. The adult butterflies drink nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants, including buddleia, sallows, dandelions, wild marjoram, danewort, hemp agrimony, and clover; they also utilize tree sap and rotten fruit.

It is a relatively common butterfly seen in many European parks and gardens.

Very fine capture of this Peacock butterfly on the beautiful flowering branch. Great sharpness and nice colours. I like the soft background and the composition.

Hi Roma,
Really impressive the colours got on this butterfly!
I like so much the vivid and intense tones got on the insect's wings.
They make a very good contrasting effect with the white flowers.
I like very much also the DOF and the soft blurred background got, it let us better appreciate the main subject.
My compliments for the photo and thanks for share it.

Nice shot. It almost looks like the BG is in B&W and the butterfly in colour which has created a great effect. Good use of DOF and exposure.
