Hello
Today I'm sending the picture of spider from the genus Pirata sp. (family Lycosidae)
(Most probably - I'm not an arachnologists, so if anybody can determine it I'll be thankful).
There are 8 species from this genus in Europe and most of them (exept of Pirata uliginosus) live in damp habitats and marshes.
In this photo you can see it walking on the surface of the water. I want you to pay attention how the water is "caving in" under the legs of the spider. These legs are built in the way that they don't top the water surface membrane.
Similar situation can be observed in many different invertebrates that live on the water surface (for example Gerris sp. belonging to Heteroptera).
So enjoy the picture :)
Ania
P.S. I'm sorry but I forgot to add that I crop the picture a little and made it a little bit sharper.

Hello Ania,
a nice and interesting picture of the spider which is able to walk on the water surface. Focus and sharpness are excellent. Presentation of the impressed water is 'impressive'.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Ania,
This is a fine capture of a marsh spider. The detail you show gives a good example of how it uses the surface tension of the water, so well described in your note.
Thanks and regards,
Ivan

Hi Ania!
Very nice picture! And very interesting too!
I have seen many times insects "walking" on the water but never observed in detail the water surface...
Thanks! Enrico.

Hi Ania,
A beautiful photo, especially how the water surface is holding the spider on top of it. It is just interesting to see the shape of the water. Composition and sharpness are very good.
TFS,
Niek

Cześć Ania. Świetna fotka, ostrość i naświetlenie idealne. Fantastycznie widać wgłębienia w wodzie. Dobrze zrobione. Pozdrawiam Robert.

Hi Ania,
The colours, sharpness and details in this photo are excellent.
Well done.

Witaj,

Tobie sie to udalo :)
Glebia ostrosci i kontrast sa bardzo dobre (moze z wylaczeniem fragmentow czesci glowowej).
Pozdawiam!

Hi Ania

I hope you don't mind me picking this shot to talk about, but i was simply charmed by it when i was browsed through your gallery :)
You caught this nice spider in such an impressive position here - "walking" on water. It's indeed an impressive phenomenon of the insect world that use their hair from their legs to push down on the surface of the water and use that superficial tension in order to "walk" on it.
You managed to see that well here and captured it from an excellent POV.
The details on your spider are very neat and sharp - especially on the abdomen and the hind legs. The cefalo-thorax looses at bit in sharpness, which might have been avoided with the use of a bigger DOF, but it's really no big deal here.
The contrast here between the spider, the water and the reeds is also a very attractive element, giving also some nice colors to the scene.
All-in-all: wonderful work.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Ania...

Congratulations, big shot.

Zdjęcie z paru względów ciekawe.
Piekny pająk prezentuje na czym polega zjawisko napięcia powierzchniowego!
Super!
Pozdrawiam, Rafal

Hello Ania,
Excellent sharp macroshot of this spider with water caving very clear. Great POV. TFS.
