[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This time I would like to present you something less colourful with special dedication to Dietrich (meyerd) a friend from Switzerland, and a person who like "non-commercial" insect species. I hope Dietrich that you will like it ;>

This is an adult specimen of caddisfly family Lepidospomatidae, Trichoptera.

The world fauna of Trichoptera includes more that 11000 species distributed mainy in tropical areas. About 900 species are known from Europe and some 290 have been recorded from Poland till now. More that 1/3 Polish species are included in the Polish Red Data List and among them 13 in extinct category with question-mark (EX?). Three of them are also placed in the Red Data Book.

Caddiflies are really interesting insects. In Europe all species as a larvae live in different waters, usually in springs and rivers, but some of them can be found even in periodic water reservoirs. But in tropical areas larvae of some species are terrestial and live in wet habitats. In Asian mountains one species is known as occurring next to glaciers so it can be found even on the snow furface.
But really on the snow surface also some European species can be found - but this time as the adults. What do they do in such cold habitats? Well, it is easy - it is cold all around so they... mate and copulate! ;>

Trichoptera are insects which in their life cycle have 4 stages. Everything starts in eggs (or if you preffer in adults ;>) than there is a larva, pupa and the imago.

Adults can be easy find next to waters in which their larvae live. Many species can be atracted to light during night.

All information presented above are more or less known ;) But probably not everyone knows that larvae of some caddisfly species make a web! Similar in composition to spider's web but realatively stronger and of course... it is under the water! :) Usually the web is build between stones. But most of these species do not hunt for another insects but they use web to collect all these things which are bringing with the river.
Please note how fast some rivers or springs are and than please imagine how strong the web has to be! :)

This picture was takes in forest area about 2-5 m from the river. Specimen seen on the photo has about 1 cm.

I hope that after this short presentation you will like also some less colourful insects ;>

Hello Radomir,
It's almost 3:00 am here (just back from clubbing), and I found the link to your photo in my mailbox. Interesting insect with fairly long antennas. I don't think I've seen it before. The image is very sharp and depth of field is excellent. Very detailed and informative note, as usual.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hello Radomir,
I like good pictures of insects, irrepsective of their colours or their more conspicious appaerance. You captured this hardly visible specimen very well in its natural environment - for me another point which is important for an evaluation. Thank you for posting this 'non-commercial'.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Radomir,
It is a very sharp and great shot of the Caddisfly. It might be non-commercial, but is part of nature. Living close to a river, I meet them in great number sometimes. Thank's for interesting note, I didn't know about the webs.
Best regards
Anne

Hi Radomir,
Life is not a commercial issue and in that so strong emotion driven live creatures like this moves to reflection. 11000 species! Outstanding note and appropriate photo.
TFS, José M.

Dear Radomir,
you caught me completely off-guard here, I am now sorry for not checking your files for a few days. Here you go with a surprising shot of a rare and interesting- looking caddisfly species. The pic is extremely well taken, sharp to the last toe, the transparencies give it an etherial look. After that, who needs colours?

You dedicated the marvellous shot to me, I am moved by this kind gesture of yours. Of course I cannot respond in kind, I first have to make those great photographs needed! But such is the spirit of TN. Thank you very much!
With my best regards,
Dietrich

Hello Radomir,
I missed this one, possibly because it wasn't advertised!
Though I have seen many caddis flies in my time, I'm no specialist so I can't ID it. Howver this is a fine sharp and well composed presentation and a suitable dedication to Dietrich.
Well done and TFS,
Best wishes, Ivan
