he Common Crane (Grus grus), also known as the Eurasian Crane, is a bird of the family Gruidae, the cranes.

It is a large, stately bird and a medium-sized crane at 100-130 cm (40-52 in) long, with a 180-240 cm (71-96 in) wingspan and a weight of 4.5-6 kg (10-13.2 lbs). It is grey with a white facial streak and a bunch of black wing plumes. Adults have a red crown patch. It has a loud trumpeting call, given in flight and display. It has a dancing display, leaping with wings uplifted.

Beautiful! Looks very similar to the american Whooping Crane, that has only less than 400 birds left in the wild)

Excellent capture of a group of Common Cranes in a fine composition.
They have already come to Poland! They are early this year: I have seen 9 today in S. Sweden.

Piękne ptaki. Będac na mojej działce nad Jeziorem Strykowskim (Wielkopolska) często słyszę je przed wieczorem lub rano. To charakterystyczne skrzypienie roznosi się na kilometry nad powierzchnią wody. Są tam też czaple siwe, wytrawni ławcy ryb polujace nad wodą obok coraz popwszechniejszych tutaj kormoranów. Jedne i drugie są daleko (ok. 300-400m) od mojego stanowiska... Piękny kadr, bardzo ładne stadko pięknie uchwycone w charakterystycznych pozach. Świetna głębia ostrości i ładna jakość zdjęcia.
