This picture is dedicated to my old friend Lukasz [Kaszek] who gave me Kenko Extension Tubes to test for this weekend. Thanks mate :-)

Front view of Tiger Beetle with well visible jaws. These jaws are very useful and multipurpose tool. I saw many times how these beetles use it. Believe me, they are good !

Cicindela are generally brightly colored and metallic beetles, often with some sort of patterning of ivory or cream-colored markings. They are most abundant and diverse in habitats with sandy soil (though some prefer clay), and very often near bodies of water, even if seasonally transient; along river, sea and lake shores, on sand dunes, around playa lakebeds and on clay banks or woodland paths.

Systematics

The genus Cicindela is (in its broadest historical sense) the largest genus of tiger beetles, and they occur worldwide. The status of the genus is constantly in a state of flux, as various authorities on different continents have vastly different opinions about which (if any) of the dozens of subgenera traditionally recognized within the genus are deserving of being accorded status as independent genera. Moreover, this is one of the few insect taxa in which the rank of subspecies has traditionally been used repeatedly, and essentially no two classifications consistently treat the various members of the genus as to which are species and which are subspecies. Treated as a single genus, and even with a fairly conservative estimate of species, there are over 850 (or even up to 2,300) species in the group, with several thousand published names applied, collectively.

wow...Ya know...I am so happy you like my bee image. I respect all of your work including this. Although I am now getting out of the business of buying adapters...it is nice to think back to the film days when I had the ability to do this type of imaging. Very fine job for a guy who likes alternative music:-)As per your comments on my bee in case you, like me, tend to forget what we say from time to time..

Hello Grzegorz,
JAWS ! "La gueule du monstre"! What a sot, I've never seen anything like it before. The Kenko tubes must have convinced you. Well done, Grzegorz!

I use tubes all the time for macro; my (unproven) idea is that with tubes added the macro lens can operate in a middle range of magnifying where the optics is at its optimum. Of course there are costs, like loss of light.
Best regards
Dietrich
