Hi Greg , nice shot of this dragonfly , great use of your focus area with all of the insect and its perch in good focus , nice soft background , and interesting angles in the whole composition , also like the natural earth tone colors , a very good photograph , thanks for sharing it.

It´s an outstanding image, i like a lot the fine details and sharp focus on insect. Diagonal composition and BG are the best toghether with sharpness.

A lovely composition with the diagonal dragonfly holding the diagonal branch.
The colour palette is lovely with the oranges and browns.

HI. Greg. Not to sure about the ID, but i am sure that its a great close up. As you say once you get use to the SLR they a good to work with. Your shot has fine detail and natural colours. i like the way the line in the BG are going the same way as the Dragonfly. well done tFS. PS i have had look in the books and i would say its a Ruddy Darter.
