Strange creature
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Please guess what is this strange creature?
I think most of you don’t even suppose that it’s a moth… Of course it has no wings but… not all the moths have the wings ;-)
This winter/spring is really strange this year and I was being able to find some wingless females of winter moths.
This one is very special: although it’s very common species it’s very hard to find it in nature. Why? Because all females of this species prefers high trees ;-)
This year I was a little bit of luck – I’ve found it on lower level and I was be able to make some pictures. Below I'll give you some info about the species.
Local names:
PL: Włochacz naśnieżek
UK: Pale Brindled Beauty
SK: Piadivka hrušková
CZ: Drsnokřídlec hrušňový
DE: Schneespanner
SE: Gra fjädermätare
FI: Sulkamittari
DK: Fjer-maler
NL: Perentak
Description:
Usually you can find this species in March and April. This year I've found it in February. It lives in almost all habitats: parks, gardens, scrubs.
Caterpilar foodplants:
- Quercus
- Carpinus
- Populus
- Salix
- Alnus glutinosa
More info about this species you can find in my database. |

Hi Chris.
How you are right. I really have not any idea what is it. Nice photo. Creative decoration and framing, interesting and pleasant to eyes combination of crisp sharpness and blurriness of the image. My best wishes and TFS. Well done.
Alexei.

Hi Chris,
Wonderful shot of this incredible moth which I see for the first time. Very impressive sharpness and it is perfectly camouflaged against that lichen covered branch. You have done very well to see it at the first place. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
TFS.

hello Chris,
Amazing creatures these moths without wings and perfectly adapted to the surrounding with mimicry which protects them. Lucky you didn't have to climb!
Very interesting posting
Thanks a lot
Anne
Witam Krzysztofie!
Pozdrawiam serdecznie,
Radek
PS. Z punktami wroce wkrotce :)

What a great capture!! I think it must be very difficult to find these female moths, for they can't make note themselves by flying. The shot is perfect with perfect focus and excellent sharp details. The presentation is really cool! I like it very much.
Thank you very much for sharing.
Have a great weekend.
Best regards
Maite
