No, this is not a banana!!! This is a beetle!!! ;>

This is a member of Curculionidae family - Lixus paraplecticus Linnaeus, 1758 (in Polish: kulczanka wodniczka), one of the biggest Central European weevil species (some 12-14mm).

It can be easy recognized thanks to its characteristic body shape and colouration (almost like a banana ;>).
This species is rather common in spring/early summer period, and easy to find on Apiaceae (= Umbelliferae) plants occurring on the banks of rivers and lakes.
Both adults and larvae are vegetarians.

I would like to dedicate this picture to well known TN member from Italy and great lovel of insects and other small creatures - Luciano (lousat) :>

Picture was taken in Ilawa, Masurian Lakes District, SE Poland.

Wow Radomir,
This is a beetle i have n'ver come across. And what strange shape, texture and colours. I like the PoV you have used with excellent DoF that is able to give a very clear profile of the beetle. The details of this fine macro show excellent features of this interesting subject.
I do not think you had good natural lighting. But the capture is done with good focus and clarity.Very well done.
TFS & Cheers

Hi Radomir,
A nice and odd weevil, really looks like a banana insect, he, he. Quite small to be the biggest weevil in Central Europe, we have many species largest of this one. My next post would be from a similar species.
Greetings
Hernán
