Another photo from my Sunday walk.

Pontia edusa

Family: Pieridae

The Pieridae are a large family of butterflies with about 76 genera containing approximately 1100 species, mostly from tropical Africa and Asia. These butterflies are characterised by mainly white or yellow coloration, often with black spots.

Similar species P. daplidice is a strong migrant species which can be found over a large part of western Europe, it occasionally reaches the shores of the UK and up into Belgium and Holland Pontia edusa is a 'sister' species which replaces it in the eastern half of the continent. The two species are inseparable without biochemical analysis.

Wing span: 34-42mm

Centaurea stoebe (spotted knapweed)

Family: Asteraceae

The family Asteraceae or Compositae (known as the aster, daisy, or sunflower family) is the largest family of flowering plants, in terms of number of species.

Centaurea is a genus of about 350-500 species of herbaceous thistles and thistle-like flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, mostly native to the Old World. Common names for different species include star thistle, cornflower, knapweed and bluet. Some species are cultivated as ornamental plants in gardens.

C. stoebe group consists of several taxa of uncertain taxonomic status that are very difficult to distinguish morphologically. The C. stoebe group is distributed from central France in the West to Russia in the East and from the Baltics in the North to Northern Greece in the South. In several areas it occurrs together with species from the closely related sections Phalolepis and Willkommia.

De acuerdo con tus comentarios Krz, en próximas fotografías lo tendré en cuenta aunque esta está algo trabajada.

Hi Krzysztof, splendid composition with fantastic colors, beautiful edusa with great details and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Some folks can do different poses and it all looks the same, but you somehow made it totally different. You change the shape dimensions of the frame or something. Very nice my friend. It looks like something I might have mistaken for Ulla's work..but that is good thing!

Hello Krzysztof,
This is another excellent butterfly macro, this time probably Pontia edusa, though daplidice is not impossible in Lodz.
The technical quality of thi image is superb and the composition with the Knapweed flowers very pleasing.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Best regards, Ivan

Another extremely pleasing composition with a Pieridae butterfly sitting on those lovely purple-pink flowers, Chris.
You did well not to crop off part of the branch on which four of those flowers are bunched together. They form a significant part of the entire composition.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Krzysztof.
Wonderful butterfly series. This one is so fine as others. First of all I like impressive subject created by four well located flowers and nice butterfly. Framing and composition of the image are really brilliant. I also like pleasant cold a bit colours, crisp sharpness of the main subject and fine well blurred BG. All in all great work. Bravo and my best regards.
Alexei.
