The female of nursery web spider (Pisaura mirabilis). The nursery web spider is a spider species of the family Pisauridae. Males of this species offer food gifts to potential female mates. Some Pisaura mirabilis have also been observed to feign death, remaining still while holding the food gift in their mouths. When the female approaches and tries to take the food away, the male springs back to life and attempts to mate. This act of playing dead gives the males over a 40% success increase of achieving copulation.
PL – darownik przedziwny. Pospolity i szeroko rozpowszechniony pająk o długości ciała 12-14 mm. Występuje w całej Europie, północnej Afryce i wschodniej Azji. Lubi miejsca nasłonecznione, takie jak; ogrody, obrzeża lasu albo łąki. Często spotykany na niskich rośli-nach i na krzewach. Nie tworzy własnej pajęczyny łownej. Bardzo żarłoczny, poluje na drobne owady uganiając się za ofiarami. |
