Do you know why I like Botanic Garden so much? Because it helps me feel like child almost every day. Do yo remember when you were child and discover world? Every thing was new and surprising - new views, smells, people, animals, places...then after few years moments of discoveries became more and more sporadic. And after another few years you realise that nothing is new, you saw all the things and nothing can surprise you at all. At this moment last sparkle of childhood dies in your soul. Fortunatelly I've got The Garden which will surprise me forever :-) Today was very good day - I saw [for first time in my life] courtship of Wasp spiders and moment after that I spotted this butterfly. This is Brown Hairstreak (Thecla betulae), number eight on my Lycaenidae list. Of course, I saw this specie first time in my life today. Hooray!

My Lycaenidae family list:

1) Polyommatus icarus - Common Blue
2) Plebeius agestis - Brown Argus
3) Lycaena phlaeas - Small Copper
4) Lycaena tityrus - Sooty Copper
5) Lycaena dispar - Large Copper
6) Cupido argiades - Short-Tailed Blue
7) Polyommatus coridon - Chalkhill Blue
8) Thecla betulae - Brown Hairstreak

Hello Greg,
If we cease to love nature we cease to be like children!
Strangely, I photographed the Brown Hairstreak yesterday but mine was a male, not as beautiful as this female taken from a great POV to show the closed wings with fine lighting, colours and sharpness.
A lovely shot from your Botanical Garden paradise and congratulations on this being your first!

Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hi Grzegorz,
Very nice macro capture.POV,colors are wonderful.TFS..José

Czesc Grzeg,

Yes, I know what You're talking about. But a child is unable to make such a perfect photograph. :) Absolutely gorgeous macro shot, excellent colors and sharpness, fantastic color harmony. Not a child's job. :)

Congratulations for finally finding a specie from Your wish-list and for making such a beautiful photograph. It happened three times with me (one today) - finding a specie from my wish-list and photographing it in reasonably good quality.

Lovely "ad" of Your enchanting Botanic Garden. Tfs.
Have a nice WE, best wishes, Wladyslaw

Hello Greg,

An excellent shot with brilliant colors with great sharpness & fine details. Well done & TFS.

Hi Grzegorz,

Marvellous macro capture of this adorable butterfly!
The sharpness and POV are just ideal with nice DOF. The colors are so natural and pure. The light purple flower gives nice contrast to the colors of the butterfly. The dark green blurred BG is just awesome. No signs of the noise are there. a neat and clean image...wow! Great job!

thanks and regards,

Hello Grzegorz,
Congratulations for this beautiful Lycanidae - maybe the most spectacular? - very sharp, with beautiful light, with a nice flower too. A lucky day for you! Cheers,
Catherine

Hi Grzegorz,
feeling like a child: well said, my dear friend. That's exactly what takes us nature freaks out every day, and keeps us alife and in good spirits: a world incredibly full of wonders, every day a new discovery. Lodz Botanical Gardens must be a blessed location. Thecla betulae is not just an everyday observation. It is something special, same as your gardens. Very nice, well describing presentation of this beautiful little butterfly in attractively rich colours. Joyful encounter. Thank you!
With best reagrds,
Peter

Hi Grzegorz
I would also be very excited if I found one of these beautiful butterflies - especially one in such good condition. You made the most of your discovery by capturing a very fine image of it. Superb colours and details.
I also understand your comments of losing your childhood sparkle. I personally find much of the manmade world we live in to be ugly and repetitive, but when I am out in the wild there is so much beauty - and if you open your mind and eyes you can always find something fantastic.
Kind Regards
Vinny
PS - I also saw Wasp Spiders yesterday. I didn't see them courting but I saw around fifty in total - it was still rare in the UK just fifteen years ago!

Moje gratulacje Mowilem ze w koncu go dopadniesz. Fotka piekna, ostra i taka jak byc powinna ale oczywiscie tutaj najbardzie liczy sie znalezisko ;-)

Hi Greg

Your post here is very optimistic. I read your note and i realized that i agree with you completely. Nature sometimes gives us these new situations in which we feel like little children: excited and thrilled while experiencing a certain element.
Your experiences in your Botanic garden look terrific and i'm also happy to see your Lycaenidae list is ever-growing :)
This is a lovely macro with the good-old Sigma telezoom. The details are excellent and your parallel POV made sure everything is in full focus.
Always a pleasure to visit your gallery, my friend!

Bravo and TFS
Horia
