Back to butterflies. This one was taken on bright yellow flowers in The Garden. Day was very sunny and insect made nice, joyfull composition with flower.

Probably Queen of Spain Fritillary or similiar specie.

European/world range:
Throughout continental Europe as far north as southern Scandinavia, with migrants occurring almost to the Arctic Circle. Resident in North Africa and eastwards through Turkey and the Middle East into Asia. Declining in north-west Europe, but stable or expanding in other European countries.

Foodplants:
Species in the genus Viola (violets and pansies) are used in continental Europe. Northern populations rely mainly on Wild Pansy (Viola tricolor) and Field Pansy (V. arvensis) and it is assumed that the butterfly is restricted to these two species in Britain.

Habitat:
The butterfly is found in a diverse range of habitats in continental Europe, but in the north of its range is associated predominantly with dry, open habitats such as limestone pavement, heathland, and dunes.

Rare migrant:
The beautiful Queen of Spain Fritillary is an uncommon visitor to Britain and Ireland, despite having a migratory habit and the presence of permanent colonies just across the English Channel.

In flight, it may be confused with the Dark Green Fritillary, but it is smaller, its wings have a more angular shape, and the large silver patches on the undersides of the hindwings are unmistakable.

Wonderful macro.Colors,clear details,DOF,framing and composition are excellent.TFS...:-)

This is absolutley gorgeous! a perfect DOF & POV and a nice exposure. Paul :)

Hi Greg, tha´ts an old friend. It´s Argynnis lathonia. This is a great macro. Great colours, excellent sharpness and POV. A very nice composition. TFS.

Good photo with good DOF, nice composition.

One little remark : seems the focus was performed on the edge of the right wing, that gives a bit soft body.

Interresting note.

Hi Greg,

Nice wake up colors!

Beautiful butterfly and flowers, perfect composition, details, and lighting.

Thank you for sharing, hope you are feeling better.

Very YELLOW and a very nice shot. You're precisely correct with the ID - it's a male Issoria lathonia - the Queen of Spain Fritillary, a very attractive (and active!) butterfly.
Regards, Nigel

Technically speaking, subject is sharp and exposure is perfect.
Artistically speaking, you got a wonderfull softlight, and the colors are just exquisite. Composition is well mastered. And best of all, it has a lot of visual impact.

How beautiful and elegant, and is difficult with such amount of yellow colour, I think the slight blur helps this time, and adds a nice atmosphere.
The composition is definately great and works perfectly.
Thanks Greg.
