Gastrophysa viridula (Degeer, 1775)
Family: Chrysomelidae - leaf beetles

Well, I know, this shot is dark, too green and the DOF is quite shallow... but... in a way it meant to be that way. I wanted to photograph this species in a shadow. Why? Look at it, it is so spherical, so shiny and so small (some 5mm long) that it's hard to take a good shot of it with more direct light.

Why I wanted to photograph this species?
Because it's one of the animals my "zoological life" started with. Long time ago, as a school kid, I made a project about it's life cycle for a Biology Olimpiad.

This species is very common in all Europe, and even in Asia and North America. It occurs in meadows and other grassy places from April to September, feeding on various species of Rumex. here you can see the effect of tha feeding :-)
The individual on a picture is a male, females have large abdomen filled with eggs.

Why you wanted to photograph this species because it's one of the animals (not animal) of your "zoological life" started with, it is good shot with low DOF..

Super fotka!

Hi Michal,
I really like this shot for the many, many, shades of green here. I think because it is all green, it is unique and interesting. DOF may be shallow, bit there is good detail in the insect. I like it!

Sharp detail and a well composed shot Michal..
You've captured the metallic green & texture very well in this low light. Well done! Thank you.

Hello Michal!
Wonderful metalic bug capture.Sharpness, details, framing and composition are excellent.TFS....:-)

Hi Michal,
Good composition and details.
Although you mention the image is dark I decided for a workshop to try and 'light' things up.
