Many insects feed on flowers, but I never realized earwigs are one of them.

In late summer I spent some evenings in my garden to take photos of moths visiting flowers. But I saw there many more other creatures than just moths. There was plenty of earwigs for example.
I must admit it was quite weird view because I was used to see lovely butterflies, howerflies or bees sitting on the flowers and earwig doesn't rather belong to the most cute cretures. So maybe it's better they are nocturnal ;)

Earwigs are omnivorous, feeding on a wide variety of food. They will eat live or dead insects as well as live or decaying vegetation. I don't really know which part of flower they like but it seems they seek for nectar or pollen. I also heard they like to eat petals of flowers.

Beautiful insect. Do you know that they can "bite" with the two claws from the rear end of abdomen?
They like also to eat grapes. I usually find lots of them between fresh picked grapes.

amazing colors... focused and composed beautifully...
the details... just wonderful...
very well done Monika...
congratulations..

Very nice shot of Forficula auricularia, probably the most popular of all 57 earwig species occuring in Europe.
Very nice colour contrast, however I think it's a bit oversharpened. Anyway, another lovely contribution from you!
Best greetings from Lodz!
Michal

Yeah, Earwig. Known as surgeon from 'Bee Maya' cartoon ;-) You are really good with taking pictures with flash Monika. More than good! Perfect focus, sharpness and surprisingly good colours as for flash use. I like it very much!

Very good clear close-up. I don't praticularly like earwigs, but you managed to make it look beautiful too. Well done.

Very well composed Monika. Wonderful POV and angle as it feeds..Very efficient use of DOF. Great use of flash and color that is set-off nicely against the dark BG. Very well done!
Thank You.

Hi Moniqa, well done, I didnt realize it was an earwig, rrrr, you make it a different specie with your camera. Nice Job. Reina

Really good capture, neither did I believe they feed on pollen. In Transylvania we have a belief that these insects would get into your ear if you sleep outside, on the grass, woods or haystacks and will cause you to become deaf and its why you always see local peasants squash them in panic every time they see one. Do Poles have same superstitions ?

Beautiful Monika,
Wednesday Night already, time to catch up with the lovely one.....
Some people would say that this is PERFECT.....and I would agree ;)
Details, colours, POV and composition are PERFECT. The photographer is SWEET and LOVELY ;))
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of the week.
