I'm not really sure what creatures are that, but I think these could be sawfly larvaes. Any suggestions are as always very welcome.

I found it feeding on the leaves in forest, it was probably young birch or poplar tree. There was plenty of them everywhere and when I got closer they started to wriggle their tails (like the one you see on my photo) probably trying to scare me.
These creatures resemble a bit caterpillars of b'flies, but some main difference can be seen. For example they have only six true legs, well developed head capsule and a hairless body.

The interesting thing about some sawfly larvaes is the fact they are able to secrete an liquid that has quite unpleasant, strong smell and can cause skin burn.
I saw such larvaes this summer in my garden. They actually ate all leaves from young willow before we even noticed what's going on. I have some shots of them that I'll maybe post someday.

ID update:
This is probably Dusky Birch Sawfly (Croesus latitarsus)

What a weird looking pair. Maybe some kind of worm-ritual? Well spotted and good technically.

Photo is interesting. Anyway, they are not friends from some brotherhood. They actually competing who eats more and the left one is trying to steal "teritory" from the other.

Regards, Petru

Maybe they are two larvae very much in love? They have a beautiful symmetry about them. I have no idea what they are though. The details are great and you've captured a very nice scence, I like this Monika :-)

Hello Monika,
This is a very nice mirror-like composition - a main strength of that shot. The image is unfortunately lacking some focus and the twig in the background is somewhat disturbing but the unusual main object rewards for all :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

Personal assessment of the note: complete and interesting.
Thank you very much Monika.

Symmentry is always rare to find in nature and therefore when one does find it makes it all the more special. This has an exceptional symetrical shape. Its lovely.

This is a really cool shot Monika! Very nice detail in this shot with fantatic subjects. :)

Hi pretty Monika.
Is excellent macro, wonderful colors details contrast and composition.
Saludos and happy new year 2006...RICARDO.

Hi Monika,
An unusual and interesting and eye-catching picture. Excellently composed with the larvae forming 2 complementary question marks "posed" against the leaf.
My only suggestion is to use the clone tool gently in Ph-Shop and get rid of the stark white reflections on the larvae. I would also be tempted to clone out the vertical twig in the background on the left. By contrast, the nicely shaped twig at the bottom is very pleasing.
