Today a photo of quite common Polish butterfly.
It is Araschnia levana known as European Map butterfly.

This is a quite interesting species occurring on the outskirts of woods and near banks of creeks in the forest zone, also in parks and gardens.
It can be seen from May to June and July to August, in two generations, but the strange thing is, the two kinds of butterflies look very different.
The spring form has an orange ground colour on the upperside with black markings increasing towards the basal area. The summer form has a black ground colour and a white (cream) discal band across both wings. You can see it on my photo.
The host plant of this species is Common Nettle. The adults usually feed on flowers from carrot family like the Ground elder (Aegopodium podagraria) from the picture.

In the shadow you can also see small bonus. It's a beetle from Cerambycidae family, probably Stenurella melanura but I'm not 100% sure. Also big fan of these flowers.

This shot have been taken at forest clearing hence the shadows on a part of the picture and maybe not entirely perfect exposure. Anyway, I like the green colours and mood of this photo. It's perfect for the awful weather we have today.

He, he, Monika :-) 'Quite common' ? I saw this butterfly maybe twice this summer and took one poor picture of it ;-) Your looks great. Excellent POV with nice bonus, load of green colours and nice light. Good summer photo! Only 3-4 months left to spring ;-)

Beautifull stuff Monika! the effect given by the light-shade play, not necesarilly by other elements. Anyway, sharpness plays a good role here too.

Regards, Petru

You show us 3 interesting things tonight Monika.
The lovely butterfly, super colours and patterns to his wings.
The beetle with his long antennae.
And the lovely flowers - they are very popular for the insects.
Well done, I like this very much,
Janice

Great shot Monika, I do like the contrast between the white flower, the dark butterfly and the green background. Nice and sharp with plenty of details. great exposure to bring out the detail of the dark and light subjects.

Hi Monika,
Beautiful shot on this butterfly. The second guy is a nice bonus. Two for one shot! The composition and framing look great. Beautiful colors with a very nice OOF green backround.

Hello Monika, this is very good. I like the subjet too, I've not seen one of those. The composition is fine but I personally would have left the beetle out of the frame as it is in shadow and diverts attention from the butterfly. That's a minor nit on an otherwise great shot. Very well done.

Very nice close-up of the butterfly with its beautiful Symmetrical Wings with nice lighting. :)

Hi Monika,
this butterfly is very pretty and I love the beautiful arrangement with this interesting flower and the other insect. Excellent shot, thanks

Witaj,
wszystkiego co najlepsze w N. Roku - tego Ci życzę.
Fajna fotografia, znam tego motylka i mam go w kolekcji. Tutaj wszystko ok., podoba mi się.

Very good color, light and detail Monika. I like the subjects placement in the frame also. It's subjective but I think that more bugs can add interest, as seen here..
Well done!
Thank You.

Monika, vivid colors, great contrast.

I like pov and composition - the "extra" bug doesn't bother me. Anyway, I think a single butterfly on a single flower is an interesting event. :)

Great blurred bg and sharpness.
