[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This could easily go to the near miss category and that is becuase of the bad DOF of course.

I found this froggy sitting on that flower and managed to take only one picture before the green fellow jump away. I though it was good looking at camera screen, but when I saw it on PC I was a bit angry because almost all body of the frog is OOF. It's probably becuase of the 2.8 f-stop that my coolpix loves to set, or maybe I moved the camera a bit. But I don't think that was the case because I took this shot lying on the ground, and the camera was quite steady.

Anyway, now I think the softness of that picture make it looks quite interesting. I wonder what do you think. Is that a total miss?

Hi Monika, I think the effect works well, gives a dreamy kind of feel to it. Would have thought it was a deliberate effect done in photoshop if you hadn't of said otherwise. TFS. Dean.

It looks like a pretty flower Monika, and you were lucky to get this one shot. Yes, it is a bit soft, but I don't think it hurts it at all. So BRAVO!

Ce tableau est charmant Monika. OK tout n'est pas trés net mais les yeux sont bien et l'ensemble agréable au regard. Félicitations Didier.

Hello Monika,
Perhaps the DOF could be better. But I like the eye contact of this little frog. Great colours, lighting and framing. Great POV too. Thanks for posting. Have a great weekend.

Very nice picture. I like the sharp face contrasting with the blurred BG.

Monika, This is a fantastic POV, to bad your aperture was only a f/2.8. Can you set your camera to manual and set your own aperture? If it had been an F/18-22 you would have gotten all of him and the flower.

Witaj,
fajna, zielona żabka. Ciemne tło pasuje do kolorów zwierzaka, wygląda jakby wyłaziła z ciemności. Podoba mi się.

Cute and soft Monika! Lovely face, lovely colours and yellow mood :-) DOF maybe isn't best but still I like it very much. Small frogs sitting on flower are still on my wishlist ;-) Great work my friend!

Hi Monika, I don't think its a total miss, the softness gives it a surreal look which is very artistic. Another notch or two down on DOF and it would have been I think but there is something to be said for the way the DOF frames the eyes and makes them the focal point of the picture. It's a lovely capture :)

Wonderful shot, Monika!

How amazing that you would consider this a failure and most would look at the genius of the shot.

Those fingers wrapped around the flower petals add a wonderful touch to this lovely photo.

Thank you for sharing this with us!

Hi Monika,
I actually think it looks fine like this. If it were all sharp it would look fine as well. In this case the shallow DOF makes it feel more like an artistic composition. The head of the frog is sharp and in focus. The falloff in the DOF starts right behind his eye. Amazingly beautiful colors in a spot on exposure. Just take the light reflection off his nose.
Scott

Hello,
Beautiful macro!
Great colours, composition and light!
Ana:)

I'm glad I read your opening line before I inserted foot in mouth Monika! ;-}}
DOF aside, It's a very well composed closeup with excellent light, color and POV.
Almost Very Well done! :-)
Have a Great Weekend!!

Wooooooooooooooow!

Monika! Very wonderful shot!
Congratulations!

Good DOF and Colors!

TFS,
Chris

You were so lucky to get this shot with the main eye in focus. It makes it a rivetting picture... especially against the black background.

It looks interesting. So not to go in the near miss category, you should call it "eyes of the frog" then here you have the "subject" sharp.
I think not every time a deep DOF helps; a shallow DOF may create sometimes the illusion of perspective on a 2D screen.Of course that depends on other technical factors too...

Regards, Petru

Handsome froggy portrait with a nice DOF capturing the essence of it's face well. :)

superbe monika
position risquée pour la grenouille mais cela donne un beau cliché.

No miss at all, it is a great shot and gives the impression of the frog clinging to a large fluffy pillow. Compos/colour/detail great. And sharp where it needs to be, it gives the impression as if the snout was sticking out, and creates a ncie 3D effect. A tiny bit more DOF (to include the eyes completely) would have been nice, but that's life. As is it is a great shot and one to be pround of.
Gabi

Hi Monika,
Bad DOF in one persons eyes can be seen as Perfect in anothers ;) I think the shallow DOF works very well with this Sweet little froggy. Lovely colours, details and POV.
A total miss? No....this hit the bullseye Monika. ;)
Have a fantastic weekend my friend.

Lovely capture Monika, I think a little more DOF would have made this cracking shot, just short of that the picture has like you say a softness which gives it a unique quality. Love the black BG also. Very well done.

superb shot !! Great sharp,POV ,colors,composition
I like it very much.

Hello Monika,

I feel the image is great as the F-Stop allows the frog to appear to be ready or at the beginning of its jump from the plant it is on. I will post an image of a beetle that I took the same way and you will see that it appears to be attacking the camera lens. It was the effect I wanted as it was approaching my lens from inside the flowering bush.
Good Luck,

Hello Monika, I think the shallow DOF has worked well here - it really brings attention to the frogs eyes. The colours are great and it's a very strong composition too. Very well done.

Great shot! The sharply focussed face with soft focus on othe parts look beautiful. Also wonderful colours, and the black bg makes the subject stand out.
