This is my second picture of this spider. The first one you can see here

I've seen many crab spiders hunting in Buttercup flowers, but usually they were the yellow specimens not the white ones. It seems that the colour isn't really very important because this fellow managed to catch a nice fly despite the fact he wasn't well camouflaged.

What happened here?

The spider have been patiently sitting on this lovely flower waiting for a prey such as honey bee, butterfly, fly or beetle, anything edible that will be atract by the yellow buttercup.
The waiting pay off when that nice fly arrived. The spider immediately grabbed it using spiny front legs and bit it on the head area. Real kiss of death one would say. The venom act quickly. Now the fly is death and it's internal tissues are liquify by the digestive juices injected by spider.
The hunter can start eat his tasty meal already. He will just suck up all nutrious things and leave only an empty exoskeleton of the fly.

Sounds quite macabric, isn't it? But that's just a pure nature.

Hej, Osetku, fajnie złapany choćdramatyczny moment. Dobra ostrość, kolory, ładnie rozmyte tło. Dobra robota.
Pozdr. Al.

Great action shot. I think the spider was not perfectly camouflaged from the human eye, but I'm not sure that the fly actually can make a colour difference between the bright yellow flower and the spider. Maybe that's why it became an easy prey for the spider.

Regards, Petru

Hello Monika!
Sorry no time,critique later....:-)

Hi Monika, this is a dramactic macro. Bravo, excellent shot! Excellent sharpness, colours and POV/DOF. Excellent note too! This is a fantastic presentation. Thank you.

Another excellent shot of a crab spider and its prey from you! Again: Very sharp. Very well composed. Big impact. Good notes, too. As for the camouflage: Maybe the spider on the blossom has been looking well camouflaged to the fly, no matter it looks different to our eyes. Both the spider and the blossom are said to reflect a lot of the ultaviolet part of the spectre we do not see, but flies do. What appears white and yellow to us may have appeared in the same colour to the unlucky fly.
Coming back to your picture: I have hardly ever seen a better combination of delicious colours and a horror trip. Congratulations & best regards,
Peter

Life and death on a buttercup... excellent work Monika, this is an amazing shot.

Hi Monika!

This is what I like best :-) Violence on flower! Sucked fly! Fate of spider's jaws! Yellow buttercup! Green BG! Black, hairy abdomen! Thistle logo!
Erm, I'm going to bed ;-)

This spider looks huge... Very interesting that the camo does not "fit" here. I have read that they also keep the fly in-font of them so that predators take the fly rather that the spider should they attack. Very nice shot, Monika.

it's a realy good capture you made here Monika,
the pov is good and the dof is nice. the details are super a very good photo. Good job.

Great capture of the predators successful kill and a very desciptive note. Well done Monika. :)

Hi Monika,
I'm still really busy, but will make time to catch up on your posts.
I don't really need to critique your images, as you know what I'm going to say....;)
Sweet, lovely and perfect....;) well maybe not such a sweet image, unless the fly tastes sweet to the spider!
Thanks for posting. Have a great week my friend.

Yes, very macabric Monika! But so interesting to see it in action here. The flower, spider and fly are all so sharp and clear. Excellent composition, great details, exposition and colours. Good note as well (as usual:)!

How gauche to eat black flies raw. Everyone knows you should bake them and sprinkle them with sugar first! Great picture!
