[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this picture last Autumn. This, quite exceptional, moth was one of the last creatures I had possibility to photograph before winter.

The moth belong to the Pterophoridae. Moths of this family are known as plume-moths because of quite unusually modified wings that resemble feathers. They can be often seen resting in characteristic T-shape posture with the wings extended laterally and narrowly rolled up. This along with camouflage colours make some of them resemble a piece of dried grass (like this one), and may pass unnoticed by potential predators even when resting in exposed situations in daylight.

I'm not entirely sure on the ID, but I think this could be Emmelina monodactyla.
This is one of the most common plume moths. It can be found in the early part of the year, with the adults occurring from January to May, and again in the late autumn. It has divided wings, but this can be difficult to see, as the moth rests with the wings rolled up tightly (as this one).

I don't really know why, but these moths always call to my mind old airplanes, hence the title.

Hi Monika!

Excellent picture for every plane spotter ;-) POV is just great - it remains me Leonardo's drawing, sf movies [yes, I know - everything remains me sf movies ;-)] like Flash Gordon... Very nice composition with blue sky and flower. I like this photo and plume-moths also. They're so fragile and ethereal.

Composition and exposure are Pefect. Good POV and framing. I've no idea about the ID of this moth. The blue sky BG is lovely. I'll have repeat what you said earlier...you know who's sweet ;)
