This is first Pisaura mirabilis I saw this year.

Picture have been taken at evening. I went for a nearby meadows to take some pictures of our river in sunset. When I was geting back it was quite dark already. I noticed the spider only because it was walking on the snow. I was a bit surprised seeing that it's not a common wolf spider but a Nursery web spider.

I think Polish name of this spider is quite interesting. We call it Darownik Przedziwny what can be translated as Weird Bestower. This no doubt relates to the courtship habits of this spider when male presents female a gift in the form of an insect wrapped in silk. Until fairly recently, this gift was thought to protect the male from becoming the female’s next meal. Research has shown, however, that the gift entices the female to mate, and what’s more, the size of the gift is related to how long the female will mate with a male.

Hi Monika, one last visit before I fall asleep here!
Super catch of the nearly frozen spider, It is nice and sharp, and he looks good climbing on the snow.
Reading your notes, the male's not stupid, is he?
Good shot, BRAVO! And good night...
Janice

Hi Monika, very nice shot and good details of the spider. Its funny how you have posted this as yesterday there was two of them on my patio, might post one later on.

Hi Monika!
Poor spider! I hope he has got good boots. Incredible picture - spider on ice. Looks very good, nice details and light on crystals. NO MORE WINTER!

Beautiful picture with the ice crystals contrasting with the spider. I particularly enjoyed the note, too.

Hi Monika, where is the spring indeed. Great macro. I like the different textures here of the ice and the spider. Well done and TFS.
Dean.

Well done Monika, Pisaura on ice!

How unusual, don't think I've seen a spider in the snow before. Well done.

Great capture. I'm used to seeing these spiders all over our garden. Seeing it on ice sure looks different. Can't believe how wide spread these spiders are.

TFS

Hello Monika,
Great photo, very intesting capture, Great colors, Great details, Bet is feet are colod, Great work, TFS Kyle

Hello Monika,
convincing portrait of a spider coming out from hibernation, as charming as a spider can be.
Pretty good colours and details, and a very lively direct frontal approach.
Very interesting story, too.
From a system theoretical approach, comparisons of that spider's behaviour to human equivalents would be inviting, and quite a bit amusing, too.
Thank you! Best regards,
Peter

Hello Monika,
A nicely detailed shot, you certainly love your spiders! An interesting note too. I know I'm supposed to be looking at the spider but the first thing that struck me about this is the colour coming from the ice, that kind of deep grey-blue, it's such a nice colour.
Regards,
Adrian

A great photo, with the close up of the snow giving it a very different look to what we're used to.
A fascinating note as usual, you certainly know your spiders!

Hi Monika,
It seems very unnatural to see a spider on the snow. Great shot with the sharp detail and great colors. Ice sparkles so well he looks like he is walking on diamonds. Nice shot!

A spider on ice! :) I like the composition and with a slightly wider dof this would have been perfect. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

This is a cool picture. The spider is very well defined and the exposure came out just right. Nicely framed. :)

wow, monika, "cool" shot! :-)
