[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I've been hunting for a Roe Deer whole winter and I have it at last.

Though there is quite many of this animals here they are very shy and it's difficult to get close enough to them. As I found out so far you must always check the wind and try to get close to them from the right side so they won't smell you. I also noticed that when you are far enough and don't move too quick they won't probably notice you.

On the picture you can see a male that probably belongs to the herd that lives on wet meadows nearby my house.

Roe deer Capreolus capreolus is reddish brown in colour during summer but becomes grey, pale brown or even black in winter. The tail is very small and there is a large white rump patch, which becomes less obvious or even absent during winter. Males are larger than females and have short antlers, usually with three points. The antlers are shed from October to January, and the new pair, which begins to grow immediately are covered in 'velvet', furred skin that supplies blood to the growing antlers.

Roe deer can be active throughout the 24-hour period, but the main peaks of activity occur at dawn and dusk. They are either solitary or occur in small mixed groups, and in winter large groups may form to feed together. They have a broad diet, which varies depending on the time of year, and includes the leaves of deciduous shrubs and trees, cereals, weeds, acorns, fungi, conifers and ferns.

The picture have been taken through binoculars hence the poor quality. I decided to post it however because this is the first, relatively good picture of Roe Deer I managed to take.

Hello Monika,
Well as you say its not the best quality but I dont know how you manage to shoot through binoculars,I've never tried it!
Apart from the OE snow in the foreground you have some nice detail of this very shy animal.
Well done on capturing it and TFS.

Hello Monika, this is not your usuual standard in terms of quality but I fully understand why you would be happy with it. Not the easiest of animals to take picutres of with a compact camera in the field. I like the shot and I'm pleased you saw and captured it. I have marked it down on your usual for the qaulity alone (I do think it's difficult to use the binoculars though). I hope you understand. Well done.

Hi Monika,

Very good POV and a dramatic picture! This is what we call pictorial effect in nature photography. Superb

hi monika,
congrats on your "first" Roe Deer! :-)
ok, the quality is not your usual,
but who cares, i think it´s cool
and taken through binoculars anyway.
interesting technical idea,
did you just hold them in front your
cameralens or do you have an adapter?
always a pleasure, thor.

Hello Monika,
very good shot. Great POV and very good details. Good visual impact. TFS.

Congratulations on capturing this Deer Monika ;),
As you've already said, the image quality isn't brilliant, but after a long cold winter, to finally capture one is a bonus.
I'm sure this is a sweet little deer, and for that, and your notes you get a BIG :)
Thanks for posting, have a great week my friend.

Hi Monika,
I love the colors and the softness in this capture.
The pose of the deer also adds to the composition.
A simple, nostalgic mood.
TFS. : )

Hi Monika,
I looked at this and thought that it's not up to your usual standard, however having read your note I think it's a great result using a compact and a pair binoculars, and I understand why you are pleased with it. There is a kind of sepia effect which is nice, it looks like a very old photograph, I assume because of the binos. A nice composition also, how did you couple the camera to the binoculars?
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Monika,
