Another happy spider in my photo archives :-)

This is Crab spider Xysticus cristatus having a big meal.

The victim was a Sawfly. I find them very difficult to ID, but as far as I know this can be Dolerus aericeps or any other sawfly from Dolerus species.

Taking that shot I had to decide whether to concentrate on the spider or on the sawfly. I choose sawfly and hence this POV where spider is hidden behind the grass stem.

The picture haven't been rotated, this is how I found the spider. Actually, as it often is, first I saw the victim hanging from the stem and later the reason why it was in such unusual pose. This reminds me a bit laundry hanging out to dry, hence the title.

I wasn't fuly happy with the picture because the BG was very busy and dictracting - just mess of grass everywhere, so I blurred it stonger in PP. I don't usually do that and I found it quite difficult to do, but still the picture now looks much better than before.

Amazing shot Monika! Parallel stick on the upper side made the composition strong. Brown plain bg! different and looks good here (sorry but I read it just now! bg is pp made! no, no, no, I prefer to see it in natural). Position of the unusual prey is interesting. Have you got another shot taken from the other side? Congratulations,

Hi Monika,
Nice shot, technically everything is there. Excellent job on the PP work especially as the Sawfly has transparent wings, the background looks superb. Looking at this shot initially I had no idea that kind of PP work had been done, fantastic job.

Wow! It so unbelievable to see something take down something almost 3-4 times it's size. This is another predation shot that says it all. Fantastic Monika. :)

Very happy spider, very good action photo. You're lucky with all these hunters pictures in action. I like poses of both - spider and fly, it looks like scene from circus. Good details, but first of all great moment. Note too short :-P

Good morning to you!I think you've done a good job of the BG though it would be interesting to see the effect of a clearer one.Not an easy one this because of the stark black head and torso but as usual you pulled it off so well.Like the detail on the wings.Good composition and decisive shot.

Hello Monika, another fab spider shot with prey which is always a nice bonus. Composition is good as is detail and focus, a little more DOF would have been better though. I wonder with the cool-pix 4200 do you have any control over aperture and shutter speed, Is there a manual override? Very nice work, thank you.

An excellent capture of this spider and prey.

I've seen these spiders in our garden but I've yet to find one with prey.
