[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
*I wish to dedicate this photo to Paul [PDP] who is with us again. Good to see you, Paul! Maybe picture isn't best but with your beloved hoverfly so I hope you like it :-)

This is my contribution to Callie's new category. A hoverfly and a flower. For first sight it looks good but unfortunatelly fly's head is completely out of focus... I was walking in Botanical Garden and taking shots of last hoverflies last autumn when I spotted this one. I took three or four shots which look really great on my cam's lcd. Later I downloaded pictures to my pc and saw this catastrophic result...

Phat phly philing a phlower is pherphect !!!

Maybe out of focus, but very good capture as per colors and composition. I tried a workshop just to see what would give USM. Great post Grzegorz!

Hello Greg. René did a great WS and maybe "save" this one. Digital softwares can really improve our near-missed ones and make them showable.
Thanks for this near-missed and for dedicate it to Paul. Mines are totaly missed and not very apropriate for dedication ;-) But probably next spring, for his two-hundredth, I am going to have one fit to be seen ;-)

Grzegorz, I don't think the result was catastrophic. Besides, the photo has a nice POV and strong colors, doesn't it?

Looking at this one Greg, I would be pleased to post it. Not far out of focus. Good colours and composition. Good job!

It would have been a very nice one, bad luck. It is true, sometimes I see great things on my LCD and rubish at home :(
TFS.

It is a picture that would have a better impact if it was landscape rather than portrait.

Grzegorz, Head OOF aside, this has brillant colors & I like the reflection seen coming of the wings. Great addition to this theme. TFS!

That was close, but you missed it. Well missed.
TFS.

Hi Greg
The bane of a large f-stop is well illustrated here. Nice Just missed

Good shot Greg. Well done

Nice and colorfull. Great POV. The details are fine and Rene did an excellent WS to save this near miss.

That's what happens most of the time, Grzegorz. I suspect camera manufacturers to sell optimistic LCD screens :-)). On the computer, it's most of the time a different story. Now, for close-ups like that, I use Felipe's technique for non moving subjects, ie, highest f stop whatever you come with the speed, and a steady camera. For insects, 1/125 and burst mode, eventually fill-in.
BUT, it could have been a very good shot! Very good POV, colors, exposure and subject.

I would be really happy to get a miss like this one. I usually destoy the flower beds when chasing hoverflies :)

Very well done and thanks for posting.

Cudowna jest ta czerwień... taka pełna i tak intensywna. Strasznie brakuje mi takiego nasycenia zim± kiedy wszystko wokół jest takie ponure :-(
