Family: Vespidae
Subfamily: Polistinae

The females and workers in subfamily Polistinae have 12 segmented antennae and males 13 segmented. The males lack the sting.

It is possible to distinguished Polistinae from second subfamily - Vespinae by the shape of abdomen, the shape of hind wing and the shape of nest.

Abdomen
Vespinae: broad anteriorly
Polistinae: taper anteriorly and posteriorly

Wings
Vespinae: no tiny lobe at the base of hind wing
Polistinae: with tiny lobe at the base of hind wing

Species: Polistes gallicus
Polish name: klecanka rdzaworozna

Size: about 15mm

Range: warm parts of palearctic region

Habitat: Warm meadows and steppes

I am not 100% shure that it is gallicus. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Hi Krzysztof,

Very sharp, good DOF. Maybe the composition would work better with the wasp in the left bottom third. As is it looks like it is leaving the photo.

Hello
This is a great picture with good sharpness. Good colors. What a different kinda of bee. I sure hope their sting isn't deadly.
Nice texture on the wood.

Hello Krzysztof,
the wasp is well and clear presented. Background colour and structure are very appropriate and nice. There is strong light from the right which is not easy to manage.
Best wishes, Peter

Not critics on the technical merits of your image. But I wonder if this paperwasp couldn't be a Polistes dominulus, though I'm also not 100% sure, being a bit out of my field here... ;-)

Who knows better than you about these things, Krzysztof?
Anyway, this is a fine macro of the insect in bright light, giving perfect details of some of the features you describe in your note. Its antennae are really quite different and I can actually count the segments on each of them!
TFS and bye.

Well done Krzysztof.
Very good detail and DOF throughout the body of the insect. Good exposure, natural color, and I like the textured grain of the old wood surface here.
Have a Great Day!

Hi Krzysztof.
I like your very nice close-up. The refection the wasp is excellent as well as the reproduction of the texture of the boards. Crisp sharpness and perfect details of the wasp make a very good impression. Clearness and transparency of the shot are great. It seem to me that it will be better to move the wasp hardly to the left. But it is matter of taste. Superb done and TFS.
Alexei.

Za Michalem - troszke za duzo pustej przestrzeni po lewej i osa moze nieco zbyt ciemna [przynajmniej tam, gdzie cien pada]. Poza tym bez zarzutu. Kolejny ciekawy owad, szczegolowy i dokladnie pokazany.

Hello Krzysztof,
this is a very nice picture from a wasp. Good POV, great sharpness, details and natural colours. This is a very nice composition. Thank you for posting.
