Not much to say about this one. Another postcard from summer days, another colorfull butterfly. Weather and work still prevent me from taking new picture. Worse - I missed comet! Last days we've got big and bright comet [C/2006 P1 McNaught] on western horizon. I didn't take any picture of it - clouds covered the sky all the time :-(

Anyway enjoy this small piece of summer.

Brimstone:

Found in Europe, Asia, and even north Africa, it is one of the longest lived butterflies, living up to thirteen months, although most of this time is spent in hibernation.

On the upper side the male is sulphur yellow and the female white with a greenish tinge but both have an orange spot in the center of each wing. They never settle with their wings open and from the underside the sexes are more difficult to separate but the female is still paler. Their wing shape is unique among British butterflies (although there are similar, closely related species in southern and eastern Europe) and is designed to act as camouflage while they rest and during hibernation. widely distributed across the southern half of the UK, it has been steadily increasing its range in the north of England but is limited by the distribution of its larval foodplants and is quite possibly close to its maximum possible distribution now unless there foodplants range also increases. In Ireland it has a much more localised distribution. It is widespread across Europe, North Africa and eastwards to Mongolia Often the first butterfly to be seen in the spring, sometimes as early as January when hibernating adults are awoken on a sunny day, there is a popular myth that it is this butterfly which gave us the word BUTTERFLY, a corruption of butter-coloured fly.

Hello Grzegorz,
a common butterfly but a rarely good picture of it. Superb focus and depth of field - all parts of the butterfly are presented with high sharpness. Due to the dark background, the outlines of the wings are super-clear.
In addition,
nice composition!
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Greg,
Great image due to its composition, sharpness and depicted Brimstone.
Well done

Perfect macro, I reallt like it.

Hejka!
Bardzo ladne zdjecie! Widac nawet jak ssawka popija sobie nektar ;) Co do kadru osobiscie przesunalbym calosc lekko w prawo - mniej czarnego, odrobinke wiecej kwiatka :)
Ale poza tym fotka bardzo ladna technicznie, widac nie tylko pojedyncze zylki skrzydel, ale takze drobniejsze szczegoly!
Polecam takze dorzucenia nazwy lacinskiej owada:
Gonepteryx rhamni (Pieridae).
Serdecznosci,
Radek

Hi
Very simple but very nice composition. I like the contrast between the butterfly and the flower. The sharpness is also great and the background uniform.

Hej

Serdecznosci,
Michal

Hello Grzegorz,
Wonderful shot and really beautiful composition. I think however you could have given a bit more space to the beautiful flower.
Anyway, excellent job. TFS.

Hi Greg

Stunning camera work MF. Beautiful to view... thank you!

Hi Greg,
The combination of the lemon colered b'fly and the warm colored flower is just amazing. The composition with the subject positioned close the the border is excellent. Really great DOF and the the photo is as sharp as my lawyer.
