[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A common butterfly in Portugal, but with beautiful colours.
They like to fly on hot spring and summer days.
It could have 27-32 mm wide wings.
It has two generations in Portugal.
The female is bigger then the male.
The female lays the yellow eggs on dried leaves on the soil.
This species hibernates in a caterpillar stage. Their larva feeds on gramineae like Brachipodium phoenicoids; Brachipodium retusum and Deschampsia caespitosa.
It flies from April to September, till 1200 meters of altitude.
It belogns to the Satyridae Maniolinae family.

Very beautiful shot, Paulo. The depth of field is excellent. The pattern on the butterfly is very interesting; I like how there is just a band of colour at the top of its wing. The yellow flowers are like little suns and really make this composition special. Well seen.
