Pico Ruivo can be reached from both Pico do Arieiro and the village of Santana. With an altitude of 1861 meters it is the highest peak on the island.
During the summer months a state run refuge is open directly beneath the summit. Do call the Tourist Office in Funchal to ask about vacancies.
During the winter the peaks are often covered with snow. Walking at this altitude can become quite dangerous due to sudden weather changes - so be prepared!

It seems to be very high indeed! This perspective almost gives me vertigo! This is a stunning POV, you were over the clouds! Exposure, colors and composition are beautiful. I like this shadow (of the mountain I suppose) that gives the picture a dramatic aspect. Thanks,
