Seeing this interesting animal provoked my curiosity. I did a bit of googling around and found the following...


The Portuguese Man O' War (Physalia physalis), also known as the blue bubble, blue bottle, man-of-war, or the Portuguese man of war, is commonly thought of as a jellyfish but is not a single animal but a siphonophore — a colony of four kinds of highly modified individuals, specialized polyps and medusoids, which are dependent on one another for survival. These pelagic colonial hydroids or hydrozoans are infamous for their very painful, powerful sting.

I've heard about "caravela portuguesa"... quite poisonous no??Ther are not many animals like this on TN, and for this, TFS

Linda foto, muito boa as cores e a nitidez. Parabéns.
No entanto, acredito que esta foto seja, na realidade, a foto de uma velella (Velella velella), que é semelhante à caravela-portuguesa (Physalia physalis - também conhecida como garrafa azul, e que aparece em todas as regiões tropicais do oceano). Enquanto que o flutuador da velella é simétrico radialmente com a vela em ângulo o da caravela-portuguesa é simétrico bilateralmente com os tentáculos no final. Além disso, a caravela tem um sifão, e a velella não.
