Last weekend I have witnessed unusual phenomena. I have found flowers of Helleborus purpurascens, on mountain Tampa at about 900 m altitude, on 25th January.

Mountain Tampa is my favorite place for taking photos. My hometown Brasov lies at the base of this mountain in a depression called Barsa. Difference in altitude from town to top of the mountain is about 300 m.

Sometimes, especially in winter, thermal inversion occurs. Temperatures no longer decrease with altitude but increase. The effect can be observed from 100 to 300 m altitude from ground level of the area where it occurs. This inversion occurs in the vicinity of warm fronts when a layer of warm air covers the layer of cold air from the depression.

January is the coldest month in Brasov with average temperature of -3,9 Celsius. Several days it was warm with temperature raising till 10 C in day time. It seems that warm weather and thermal inversion have determined this unusual blooming of Helleborus purpurascens plants, in January, at about 900 m altitude.

Hi Cristian,

Hi Cristian,
in Italy i think it's not an unusual flowering of Helleborus in winter, i remember to have often seen this flower in January on the PreAlps at about 1000 m. altitude, where i lived; i like the undergrowth atmosphere and soft colour tones in a very nice composition.
TFS. Best regards.
Maurizio

Hi Cristian,
A nice capture of this beautiful flower. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Cristian,
I love Helleborus flowers and they're very popular here in gardens. In my childhood garden in Stockholm they used to grow under deep snow in mid-winter!! It must be lovely to see them in the wild and this is a beautiful capture! Great sharpness and a fine composition.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Cristian.
What a nice godsend. I like this very pictorial scene and nice, tender shot. First of all I am impressed with low POV and impressive composition. Second is wonderful and very pleasant colour palette of the shot. My kind wishes and TFS.

Merhaba Dostum Cristian,
Yine çok hoş bir yabani çiçek karesi sunmuşsun. Kahverengi fonun önünde uçuk pembe rengiyle çok uyumlu bir görüntü sergilenmiş. Emeğine sağlık.

Hello Cristian,
It's a very fine picture of Helleborus-flower, Cristian. I like especially the delicate colors of the picture. You have also chosen a adequate low point of view. We know this inversion-situations well here in the alpine regions too.
Thanks and best regards

imaginea imi transmite un sentiment de puritate si candoare. aceasta micuta floare roz-alba radiind lumina, privind in jos parca timid , intr-un loc unde peste tot este intuneric in jur.

Salut Cristian!

Very interesting note illustrated by nice image. Flower looks rather strange between dried leaves, taken in heart of winter. I envy you to live so close to beautifull mountains and I hope I'll see Brasov again really soon.

Hi Cristian,
Very nice close up.Lighting,POV,3D effect and compositon are wonderful.Excellent work!
Thanks for posting.

Bonjour Cristian,
Agréable macro finement détaillée et délicatement colorée bien que la profondeur de champ ne soit pas optimale ; bonne opposition sur l'arrière plan.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard

Hi Cristian, a perfectly focused and composed macro capture of this Helloborus flower from a wonderful POV with excellent details, colours and sharpness.
TFS. Have a great weekend MF!

Hello Cristian,
A great capture of a Helleborus flowering in the wild: we have them only in gardens and they are called Christmas roses in Swedish because they flower in the winter.
Nice low POV to show the structure of the flower with good use of the shallow DOF as seen growing among the dead leaves in great ligting.
TFS this winter beauty,
Best regards,
Ivan

Hello Cristian

An interesting phenomena for sure.It would make sense that warmer air would rise if the ground is insulated by frost and snow.
It would be unusual to see blooming flowers especially alpine ones in January.
Well documented. The focus is sharp and well detailed.
Lovely subtle colours.
TFS

Very interesting and original point of view. Its hard to believe anything would be flowering at that altitude at this time of year. TFS, Gary

Hello Christian,
very appealing, well approached, well taken picture in pleasantly soft warm hues, well composed.
A joyful herald of spring in dark winter times, very well shown.
The inversion phenomenon you are describing is happening quite often in our mountains, too - with closely related Helleborus niger showing its sturdy blossoms on a mild and sunny day high above the ocean of persistent fog covering the freezinly cold lowlands.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

Hi Cristian,
this is beautiful picture really unusual flower! I like composition, very nice colours and details.
Best regards, Leonid
