muddy wonder I

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Mud vulcanos (Vulcani Noroiosi) is one the most unusual and intriguing natural places in Romania. They occur in the section of the Carpathian Mountains called Carpatii Curburii, which is a passage between the East and Southern Carpathians. The rocks in the area is full of oil and methane and that is probably the reason for the vulcanos to occur. The methane sips up through the rocks carrying water, hydrocarbon fluids and particles of soil. The temperature of the vulcanos is low. Usually you may see just as the liquid bubbles but sometimes it erupts and the rivers of mud flow down the hills. Salt and calcite appear when the mud dryes and the whole area looks a bit like form out of this world.
This is the first picture of a number I would like to devote to this place - one of the European nature wonders.
