Green lizard
Size: the biggest lacertid in Romania reaches 40 cm.

Habitat: thermophilous species, lives mainly in lowland areas, climbs up to 700-800 m high in hilly regions, prefers forest margins, orchards, sunny slopes; large populations occur in bushy limestone areas.

Behaviour: when pressed, it rapidly takes refuge in bushes, rodent burrows, crevices. Likes to bask on rocks or tree trunks concealed by vegetation. It can be tamed well in captivity (especially the males). Like other lizards, it can brake its tail very easily when in danger.

Food habits: eats large arthropods, coleopterans, worms, hymenopterans, and occasionally small wall lizards or sand lizards.

Reproduction: mating takes place in spring after which they deposit a clutch of 7-14 eggs in underground galleries. Eggs hatch in August.

Enemies: cats, raptors, and in southern areas also large whip snakes.

Conservation: the species is vulnerable, especially because of habitat destruction, in our country it is STRICTLY PROTECTED.

belle photo de ces lezards, ils sont bien copains on dirait

Hi Iulian.
Great colours and composition with these two, I take it one would be a male and the other a female with slightly different head colour? It would have been nice to have had a photographer's note for this photo.
May I suggest a slight crop to take out the piece of stick in the right top corner.
Lovely photo to capturing a nature moment.

fain moment

Hi Iulian
Nous n'avons malheureusement pas ce genre de bestioles au Québec.
Une bonne photo prise sur le vif de ces deux lézards qui semblent s'amuser sur cette roche.. Elle est rès claire cette prise.
Bravo et au revoir...JP
