Melanargia galathea) is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. Found across most of Europe (not Scandinavia), north Africa and as far east as Iran. The late twentieth century has seen an expansion of its range in the UK.

Despite its common name this butterfly is one of the "browns", subfamily Satyrinae. They are a common sight in unimproved grasslands across southern Britain, particularly on the South Downs.

I captured the same butterfly, just some hours ago - they are very common, but still very beautiful. Excellent details, each little hair is sharp. Natural colors, splendid composition and POV, nice blurred BG, and a great pose of the butterfly. Very well done !

Outstanding shot of this beautiful Marbled White butterfly with such lovely colours and markings on its wings. Superb handling of lighting and exposure and the image is tack sharp. Fantastic pose captured and the BG looks great. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.
