[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Bufo viridis - green toad

Size: reaches 11 cm long; the male is smaller than the female.

Habitat: common in lowland areas in dryish and sandy habitats, but may be encountered also in hilly regions and even in mountainous ones. The largest populations live by the seaside, on sand dunes and also in prairies.

Behavior: frequently seen around human habitations. It learned to hunt for invertebrates that fall to the ground dazed by the street lamps. Handles drought periods better than the common toad and is even found in saltish water (an exceptional thing for amphibians). It hides by day in rodent burrows or digs its own, or in wall crevices and forages only after sunset.

Food habits: eating mainly insects and centipedes, it is a useful species.

Reproduction: it enters the water for reproduction in April, using ponds, fresh or saltish lakes. The larvae metamorphose in approximately 2 month.

Enemies: doesn't have any due to the toxicity of its skin.

Conservation: it is not threatened, lives close to human habitations. IT IS STRICTLY PROTECTED and has nothing to do with scabies, which is caused by a mite (Sarcoptes scabiei).

Hi Iulian,
A fine pair of green toads you have here, in perfect axial amplexus and the male looks almost as big as the female. Good lateral capture in their natural environment in fine focus and exposure. TFS my friend.
Cheers,
Mehmet
