Species: P. alpina

Pulsatilla alpina, alpine pasqueflower, is an alpine plant found in the mountain ranges of central and southern Europe from central Spain to Croatia. It grows between 1200 m above sea level and 2700 m, and is mildly toxic.

Pulsatilla alpina has more upright flowers than other species of Pulsatilla, which generally have drooping flowers, and they are white or, in the case of subsp. apiifolia, yellow. The flowers are produced very early, often opening while still under snow cover.

A number of subspecies are recognised, based largely on the form and hairiness of the leaves. P. alpina subsp. schneebergensis is endemic to the easternmost Northern Calcareous Alps of Austria, and is named after the mountain Schneeberg. It is replaced further west by the widespread taxon P. alpina subsp. alpina. P. alpina subsp. austroalpina is found in the Southern Calcareous Alps from Switzerland eastwards, most commonly over dolomite. P. alpina subsp. apiifolia and P. alpina subsp. alba grow over siliceous rock, but are easily distinguished by the flower colour. Further subspecies have been named for local variants in the Cantabrian Mountains (subsp. cantabrica) and Corsica (subsp. cyrnea).
I was crying to find this species in flower...all around me there were only plants with seeds, the time for flowers pased. But, I found this last one, on a shadow slope, when i returned from the Pietrosul peak.

Hello Oana!

Beautifull flower. It looks so delicate and innocent. Good POV, sharpness and mix of colours. You also captured small insect here - one of tiny pollen beetles.

Hello Oana,
Very pleasant to see a white Pulsatilla. Vey fine picture with the focus on the head of the flower, surrounded by a blurred natural background. Funny little beetle on one petal. I like these flowers a lot, in my regions we have more of the kind "montana" and "vernalis".
Have a nice day
Anne

a very intereting plant. Its so beautiful but as you say toxic.
I alsa look for Galanthus sp. for years. whenever I go site I find their seeds. Bu this year I find one in a rock cavity.. I will share it in next days...
TFS.

Bonjour Oana,
La composition est superbe mais manque vraiment de profondeur de champ.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.

Impressive study of this delicate looking alpine flower, Oana.
The shot is so crisp I can even see the hair-like growth at the edges of this flower's petals.
The colours and contrasts are very good and the blurred BG highlights the flower very well.
Thanks and regards.

Hi Oana!

I can't help stopping at this image because I like the Pulstilla so much. It's a fascinating flower, blooming very early in spring and still beatiful with its long and fuzzy hair in summer. You have very well put it on stage with a fine lighting and colour management.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Oana,
