White campanula

The species from Campanula genus usually posses blue in different tones. The colors appear due to the flowers pigments. The blue color is due to the anthocyanins pigments, and specific blue-violet "delphinidin" derived from the Delphinium, the species in which was first discovered. Anatomically, anthocyanins are found in the cell vacuole, mostly in flowers and fruits but also in leaves, stems, and roots. In these parts they are found predominantly in outer cell layers such as the epidermis and peripheral mesophyll cells. The lack of colors in some plants is due to the absence of these pigments in the vacuoles of petals. The mechanism…”the ways of God” or, in modern language “the ways of Genetics” are many and sinuous.

Hi Oana... hope all is well with you and yours... :)

Even though I am a retired biology teacher, I prefer to think of it as "the ways of God"... but since He established the Laws of Nature... it is also "the ways of genetics"... ;)

I like your photo of the White campanula... very delicate and I love its bell shaped "fringed" flowers. The trinity of flowers is well composed and presented. Also thanks for the informative notes.

Buna Oana,

Florile din fortografia ta arata foarte frumos. Ai redat foarte bine perisorii delicati de pe marginea petalelor iar contrastul cu vegetatia din jur face florile si mai vizibile.

I have a whole bunch of this growing right outside my window..and I am talking right now as I sit...about 3 feet from my chair would the wall not be there...My wife's jokes me because she knows how to pronounce the name of it...Very fine image and this may be a first on TN...Now you know at least one person knows:-)

Ai prins destul de bine aceasta gingasa floare. Am umblat destul de mult prin munti, dar nu am avut placerea de a vedea varianta alba.

Numai bine si succese nemarginite...

hello Oana,
A very fine and natural picture of these white Campanulas. I like the very low point of view you have chosen, showing also the beautiful herbs around the flower. I never have seen Campanulas of this color in the wild and if I understand it well,is due to a lack of pigments.
