If I will count how many insects I photographed...a, will be around, let say, 3 or 4. I don't know what species is,and in fact, I don't care...I just want summer, sun, nice mornings, sunsets, flowers, maybe more insects to try shooting them. Oh the weather outside is frightful, But inside is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go, maybe posting something.

This picture is more for all TN member that are specialists in insect photography: I hope that I will receive some real critiques.
And, probably someone will tell me which specie is...
I took this picture in the summer, in the Calimani Mountains, at almost 2000m. Cropped and sharpened.

Beautiful picture of a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly basking on a rock, Oana.
Very good focus, colours and composition.
Thanks for sharing this grand picture from your archives.

Hi Oana,
This is Aglais urticae.
One of the colorful species of europa.
The object (butterfly) must be a little big in composition. I think the stones are so much for thise photo.

Hello Oana
An great capture of Aglais urtica taken from an excellent POV with pretty good sharpness and set in a pleasing composition on the rock.
Interesting that you took this at nearly 2000 m! Maybe the colours are a bit oversaturated but it is a fine start to your butterfly photography.
We in Sweden long for sun and warmth. We have had no sun for a long time and here in the south there isn't even snow to brighten the day!
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Thanks also for your kind critique on my 500th!

Hello Oana,
What a striking capture of the Small Tortoiseshell in a fine pose at the edge of a boulder. Fine details and I rather like the bright colours. Very nicely composed too although I would have cropped it a bit more on the right to place the butterfly off-centre.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Salut Oana!

Nice reminder of better and more hot times. As other said this is Aglais urtica, one of most common butterflies in my region. Agree with you completely - we all need summer with long and bright days! Picture looks very good, it could be slightly lighter maybe.

hello Oana!
good compo with the vivid colors of this beauty Aglais urticae..well presented..

Hello Oana,
Beautiful photo of this Small Tortoiseshell. Sorry, I'm not an insect specialist, but I hope you don't care. Very good POV and sharpness. And you want some critiques, okay, in my opion a bit too much oversaturated and too much centered. But it's still a beauty!
Regards,
Peter

Hi Oana,
a nice butterfly picture who well composed with a nice POV.
The sharpness and details are also pretty good, maybe a bit closer had been a bit better,
But I find it a bit oversaturate a bit dark too on my monitor.
I did a wWS to show what I mean.
Well done.
Gert

Hello Oana,
How colorful this specimen of the Small Tortoiseshell is! A nice composition too, showing the butterfly on this stony ground. I like your not too close framing too.
Thanks
Have a nice evening
Anne

this butterfly has stunning colors but merging in the back ground. The dull dark background in the left up and corner is disturbing.Try to change the background for good contrast affects

A gorgeous butterfly Oana,
The colors are outstanding!! I love the composition and DOf along with just the right exposure!! TFS.
I must agree with you on the weather outside, I too can't wait until spring gets here.
Ron

Hi Oana,
a powerfully colourful image of Aglais urticae, fully spreading its wings in order to collect the infrared rays of the hidden sun in the cool air high up in the mountains. I like the composition, and the drab colours of background in contrast to that very conspicous butterfly, a rapid flyer, ready to take off.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

Hi Oana,
Beautiful photo.
Great sharpness and nice colours.
Good focus.

Hello Oana,
Excellent shot of this basking beautiful butterfly which is all set to take off with warmth of the Sun on the edge of the rock to get proper lift through thermal. Well done. TFS
