[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
After searching, this butterfly resemple Melanargia galathea, or marbled white, Nimphalidae family,Satyridae sub family.
Found across most of Europe (not Scandinavia), north Africa, and as far east as Iran.

Despite its common name, this butterfly is one of the "browns", of the subfamily Satyrinae. They are a common sight in unimproved grasslands across southern Britain, particularly on the South Downs.

Like other members of its subfamily, the larvae feed on various grasses. The full range is unknown, but it is thought that Red Fescue Festuca rubra is essential in their diet. Eggs are laid on the wing, or from brief perches on grass stems, and are just sprinkled among the grass stems. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately enter hibernation, and only feed the following spring when the fresh growth occurs. They are a lime green colour, with a dark green line running down the middle of their back. Pupation takes place at ground level in a loose cocoon. Adults emerge in July, and, on a good site, in warm, sunny weather, thousands can be seen gently fluttering amongst the grass heads.

Taken this summer, in a mountaineous region, called Saru Dornei, near Calimani National Park.

Hello Oana,
Very fine picture from M. galathea in between Centaurea-flowers. Very pleasing color-combination brown and purple. I just wonder if it is not a Balcanic version of M. galathea, it looks a little bit different from our species.
Thanks and kind regards
Anne

Hello Oana,
A lovely capture of the Marbled White in a nice pose. A little soft but I find Ahmet's workshop too harsh. Fine details anyway, a beautiful background and well composed too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Buna Oana

O fotografie destul de reusita, cu un exemplar de Melanargia Galathea frumos.
Ce-i lipseste fotografiei este contrastul, daca l-ai ridica putin ar elimina aspectul laptos.
Succes...

Hello Oana,
A fine macro of a rather worn female M. galathea taken from a fine POV and set in a pleasing composition. Though the sharpness is a bit limited most of the features are well seen against a fine OOF natural Bg.
Thanks for this and thanks also for your kind words on my 600th posting!
Best wishes,
Ivan
