Araschnia levana - Map
It shows very unusual seasonal dimorphism, that adults of the first generation have a quite different appearance from those of the second. The spring brood has colouring somewhat like the Comma, predominantly orange with black markings, whereas the summer brood is dark brown with white markings.

Foodplants: Common Nettle (Urtica dioica) and Small Nettle (U. urens).

How interesting, Lucian.
I did not know that there was this other kind of dimorphism.
An excellent image of this battered butterfly, scratches and all. A wonderful POV that displays the intricate markings and colorful designs on the wings.

Salut Lucian,

Frumoasa compozitie mai ales ca fluturasul e plasat excentric in imagine. Cred ca am vazut omizile acestei specii, nu sunt prea frumoase.
Imi place definirea detaliilor, culorile si BG. Doar acel firicel de iarba uscata stirbeste putin varful aripii drepte. Asta nu diminueaza din calitatea fotografiei. Bravo.
