I spent the last weekend in Dobrogea which is a very interesting region of Romania, having a great diversity of animals. Being on Babadag lake border, at noon, I sow a snake hunting near the lakeside.
After the yellow spot behind the head I recognized a member of Natrix family. It was a pretty large Natrix natrix as it’s length was about 70-80 cm and the diameter about 2-2.5 cm.
On the camera I had an EF 60mm Macro objective. As I knew the snake is not poisonous I went to take a close-up picture. When I got closer he stopped and looked at me. I layed down on the ground and went even closer. When I was at about 25 cm from snakes head I took the photo. Suddenly I saw, through the objective, how the snake takes the attack position and before being able to do any movement he stroke twice the objective. I went back and the snake continued its hunt.
I was surprised by snake’s attack as I expected him to run away and not to face me. Next time I will use a short objective for snake photos I’ll take care! |
