Dianthus nardiformis

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
While walking through Dobrogea region I have visited the XIII –th century fortress from Enisala. It is situated on a hill about 100 m high at the side of Babadag and Razim lakes. It is a rocky limestone hill, with very low level of rainfall, on which is growing steppe vegetation. As we are in August temperature on the rocky top was near to 40 degrees Celsius.
I was surprised to see that on the limestone rocks were flowering many Dianthus. It is Dianthus nardiformis. This Dianthus is growing in Bulgaria and only in Dobrogea region in Romania. It is included in the European Red List of threatened Plants (IUCN 1997) and considered to be vulnerable (V) in Romania.
I think it is for the first time shown on TrekNature therefore I tried to do a photo as clear as possible to show most details of the flower. |
